Looks excellent, I'm glad all this stuff is going to make others cars better, rather than being stashed away in someones spare room like it was with me!
The car looks stunning, I'm definitely going to have to make a trip to see it some time!

Re: MK 1 Storm - The Money Pit
NOS is great, but nobody goes to a car show to look at boxes of parts! They look every bit as good on the car as I ever hoped they would! I need to see your car in person some time soon!

Re: £1500 to spend
I'd say every £500 you spend on the purchase price should save you £1000 in restoration costs! Save for as long as you can till the right car comes around, then crawl all over it looking for rust.

Re: Berthold the Mk1 Scirocco 1.6 GLS
Getting the engine in is gonna be the quick job, it's all the wiring, plumbing, and fabrication that takes the time, and separates a rough job from an OEM one.
On the old engine score, the motor runs very well, so if anyone has a smokey or trashed one this is a good buy.

Jimmy, it was a mk4 polo motor I had on mine, and it could fairly fling a brick! best upgrade I made so far as driving in the wet is concerned!

Get some HEL ones, they have stainless fittings, unlike the Goodridge ones.

golf mk2 carriers are built into the hubs on all models except 16v GTI and G60 models. so no dice.

there's only so many 2 and 3 digit codes, so you can expect a bit of repetitiveness over the course of 40 years of post air cooled gearbox manufacture, and the fact that the other CHD is a syncro passat means you'd have to be a buffoon to get them mixed up.

Re: Vintage Rubber now have clear front indicators
Mk1's are niche cars, I think in the last 10 years I've seen 1 other while driving around, any other time I've seen them is when I visit someone or they've visit me, or at a show. On that basis, the market is limited, and VR should be applauded for the massive effort they've gone to to supply these ...

Re: Vintage Rubber now have clear front indicators
No they're a direct swap, the only difference US to Euro is that the lens pattern on the sides is different. Speaking to Andy at VR the other day, and they've even remoulded the rubber seal, so your lenses come with new seals too!

Re: Noisy timing belt even after change
the lower timing cover always distorts over time, so it's not unusual for belts to rub, but usually it's the alternator belt doing the rubbing. It tends also to rub on the double plastic plug on the metal cover too.
My advice would be to remove both timing belt covers, and fire it up without the ...
