The engine i want to take out is the 1.6 manual and i litterally just want to do a straight swap for a 1.8, the only thing that i would be worried about is physically taking the engine out as i dont have a crane.

I would love to do it my self and if it comes down to it i may well have a go at ...

I am having very similar issues. The expansion tank seems to spew out onto the suspension tops, i have also completely flushed the system, i will be looking at he cap nxt tho. thanks guys

I am in Loughborough and think that the head gasket has gone so I am getting a couple of prices on that, my car is only the 1.6 8v and was thinking of simply changing to the 1.8 8v, I have seen a couple of engines.

Now i am a novice when it comes to this so in regards to an engine change does anyone know roughly how much it will cost????

I am in a similar position and am in the process off putting some coilovers on and brakes all round, I want to do a respray to but am scared of the cost, Yours looks very nice how much did that set you back?

Has anyone on here ever changed the cam on a 1.6 to a cam off a 1.8 8 valve? If so what engine code would I need to get the 1.8 cam from? As I know there are two different types, my car Is a 1.6 gt 1986 engine code EW,

Can ayone tell me what the 2 pipes that come from the air filter do? one goes back round the a pipe going to the carb and ones re connects down the air inlet pipe??

I have got a 1986 Scirocco GT and would like to know if there is anyone local to me (loughborough) that has experience in the 1.6 carb engines as i would quite like myn to be overhauled????

Or if anyone knows anyone that i could get intouch with, i want to get all the engine bay sorted and ...

Does anyone have a diagram of the engine bay or the vacume pipes so i can make sure they all go where they are supposed to. i Do have the odd short stubby pipe and have wondered if they should be linked to somewhere?????

I did put that back but, would it matter if I put it under the bar and not the bolt?

I have just changed my rocker gasket and since then it has started stalling at the lights and at low revs. It seems to be worse when the engine has warmed up?????

Any help please???
