Engine change help!!!!!
Engine change help!!!!!
I am considering changing the engine on my 1986 1.6 GT and was wondering if there is anyone out there that would be willing to help as i havnt done this before, i am looking at the 1.8 straight swap, if i had the space, all the kit, a garage and the know how i would go for it without hesitation but due to the lack of all this i would definately need a helping hand or someone that would do it for a fee ;)
any help would be greatly appriciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cheers

I've got a good engine n box if you need it. Needs the carb replacing though. The eng and box are still in the car.

Re: Engine change help!!!!!
I went from a 1.6 auto to a 1.8 manual in my last car, and although i did that over a long period of time it is very possible to have it done in a day. The most difficult part for me was the change of gearbox because the auto uses a different steering rack, pedal box and slightly different loom. If its just the engine you want to change there is nothing really that difficult about it. Its quite literally a case of old one out, new one in.
If your anywhere near me or are able to get the car and new engine up here I'd be glad to help out.
Ben.

Re: Engine change help!!!!!
Hi,
The engine i want to take out is the 1.6 manual and i litterally just want to do a straight swap for a 1.8, the only thing that i would be worried about is physically taking the engine out as i dont have a crane.
I would love to do it my self and if it comes down to it i may well have a go at it.
thanks for the info

If you jack up the front of the car a bit, you can slide the engine out underneath the front of the car, supported on a trolley jack or similar device.
