Looking good, front looks a wee bit high in few pics get it down a few mm. I'm after one again, so hard to find the right one.

yeah its where she's been sitting on uneven ground. im liking the ride height as it is though, too many big speed bumps round my way!

how come you sold your project? wasn't it coming on really well?

Was all down to money. Have the money to do it all again, just need to get rid my gti as haven't got the room for 2 cars. looks good on the new wheels as well.

cheers, they were also rather cheap wheels too, think i paid in the region of 500 for all 4 with new tyres (toyo t1r's) and fitted/balanced. they rub a bit out back on full compression, but i haven't rolled the arches yet. if she sat lower they would most likely rub a fair bit - easy fix though.

you going to start another project then? would it go ijn the same direction as the last one? that was looking really good too!

Re: chocco rocco - harness bar install

Post by wassell »

so as a few of you know, a few weeks ago i drew up a design for a stealthy harness bar for the rocco. sommet which i could loop my 4 points round, but wouldnt be so obvious when fitted - other than the belt straps themselves.

so i sent the drawings to a mate at uni, who made this out of 45mm OD CDS and 6mm steel plate. held in place with 4 M12 bolts and backing plates, along with the seat striker pin bolts too. so its not going anywhere! i fitted it up today to see how it sits, and im pleased to say its spot on. just need to tidy it up a little and spray it now. anyway, some pictures!

test fitting. ended up trimming it slightly to clear the arch and speaker shelf
Image

you can just see the backing plates bellow the drill - 50mm square 6mm steel, probably overkill but its what we had left over from the side plates.

dwarfs the strut brace haha.

fitted up, pretty stealthy i'd say!

was funny putting it in though!! i had the seat back removed, as were the door cards. so i tilted the passenger seat forward and climbed into the back. now anyone whose been in the back of a rocco knows there is bugger all room back there anyway - and i'm no small lad! i passed the harnesses through the front seats, looped them round the harness bar and went about fitting it all up. Now i'm practically curled up in a ball between two sets of harnesses trying to get them in - no matter, it'll be worth it. Then i finished mounting everything up and decided i'll just get out of the car to put the door cards and the top half of the seat back in. Only problem was the seats now didnt tilt forwards due to the harnesses maxing out, and i couldn't squeeze between the harness bar and the roof to climb out the tailgate...so i was trapped in the back of a tiny rocco lol. Ended up having to squeeze into a corner or the back seats and recline the passenger side to be able to climb over the top and crawl out of the car. felt like a proper mong! lol

Looks good mate, simple yet effective!
Sounds like you had fun in the back of the rocco too, its most fun trapping yourself somewhere because of your own stupidity... Like painting a floor and ending up in the corner, but the doors at the other side of the room!! hahaha

cheers, the idea was to keep it simple and stealthy. turned out alright i think.

cant say i've had the pleasure of painting myself into a corner, but i'll bear it in mind for the future :hehe:

Hey all

I haven't been on here for a few months. Not much has happened really, apart from what's in the pictures below!

I found a guy called mike, who lives in the states and makes custom velocity stacks for motorcycles. I fired him a few e-mails and included some measurements and after a few weeks these popped through the post.

They are fully custom high polished velocity stacks for yamaha R1 (4XV) carbs. if anyone wants to contact him his website is www.http://steeldragonperformance.com/

well worth it imo!

other news, the engine seems to be drinking a lot of oil, so a rebuild or new engine is on the cards. she is also going to be fully stripped out now for some trackday use. hopefully bosh in a cage and some fixed back seats instead of the recaros currently installed.

Has been a while since the last update.

Due to me loosing about half of my paintwork from rocks and mud being thrown up, I decided to fit some dirty mud guards. I'm not 100% loving the look, but the functionality is what counts for me. Not only will I save a bit of my own paint work, but also other people's as she did throw out quite a lot of crap!

I've also cleaned up the centre console as there was a lot of paint and glue left over after the cotton covering was removed. There will be some new dampers coming soon too, going back to shocks and springs as the weitecs are a little hard for my plans.

Not much else has happened though. I still need to do some work to the bonnet as the stacks do touch it, only needs about 12mm in clearance, so I need to see my local body work guru and see what he can shape up for me to suit the roccos lines.
