so as a few of you know, a few weeks ago i drew up a design for a stealthy harness bar for the rocco. sommet which i could loop my 4 points round, but wouldnt be so obvious when fitted - other than the belt straps themselves.
so i sent the drawings to a mate at uni, who made this out of 45mm OD CDS and 6mm steel plate. held in place with 4 M12 bolts and backing plates, along with the seat striker pin bolts too. so its not going anywhere! i fitted it up today to see how it sits, and im pleased to say its spot on. just need to tidy it up a little and spray it now. anyway, some pictures!
test fitting. ended up trimming it slightly to clear the arch and speaker shelf
you can just see the backing plates bellow the drill - 50mm square 6mm steel, probably overkill but its what we had left over from the side plates.
dwarfs the strut brace haha.
fitted up, pretty stealthy i'd say!
was funny putting it in though!! i had the seat back removed, as were the door cards. so i tilted the passenger seat forward and climbed into the back. now anyone whose been in the back of a rocco knows there is bugger all room back there anyway - and i'm no small lad! i passed the harnesses through the front seats, looped them round the harness bar and went about fitting it all up. Now i'm practically curled up in a ball between two sets of harnesses trying to get them in - no matter, it'll be worth it. Then i finished mounting everything up and decided i'll just get out of the car to put the door cards and the top half of the seat back in. Only problem was the seats now didnt tilt forwards due to the harnesses maxing out, and i couldn't squeeze between the harness bar and the roof to climb out the tailgate...so i was trapped in the back of a tiny rocco lol. Ended up having to squeeze into a corner or the back seats and recline the passenger side to be able to climb over the top and crawl out of the car. felt like a proper mong! lol
