Re: Hit from behind

I can't see why they wouldn't agree to a repair at your own garage - it saves them money and any risk associated with the repair is then yours. That should then avoid a Cat S designation. But then, they may think differently.

An easy way to test out the effect of Cat S on insurance premiums would ...

Re: Hit from behind

Hopefully enough time to sort out something before the wedding - hope you have a great day.

Bear in mind the market value should be the typical price you'd pay to buy a car of the same condition and mileage from a reputable motor dealer, not the trade-in or private sale value. So it's worth ...

Re: Hit from behind

I feel for you, a rear end shunt was often at the back of my mind when my Scirocco almost seemed to become invisible to some drivers, with very close following distances.

Unfortunately, I fear a proper repair to insurance standards is not straightforward. I would take the car to a bodyshop asap to ...

Re: SOLD - 1992 - Scirocco 1.8 GT II - £9,000 - Bicester

Well, after 8.5 years of ownership, I'm quite sad to see it go. A nice post-auction video review here:

https://youtu.be/Tcaj8i7CvH4?feature=shared

It is currently showing as untaxed with the V5C not updated, which suggests it went to a trade buyer I'll be interested to see if it comes back on the ...

Re: Introducing Thor! ;)

I can understand you buying it back - I'd happily buy back most of the VWs I've owned over the years. My Scirocco sold at auction last weekend - registered 1 August 1993 (L-reg), reportedly the last MK2 sold in the UK. Health and wider family responsibilities were gradually getting in the way of ...

Short clip of my GT II on the Late Brake Show

Under the shadow of a Corrado Storm, a brief mention in this short clip of my Scirocco, ready for the Iconic Auctioneers classic car auction at Wheeler Dealer Live on Sunday:

Re: Oil Pressure Gauge / Sensor

Coincidentally, a thread on this topic has just popped up on the Mk1 Golf forum. Looks like it may be worth a good read:

The car's a bit of an oldie but it's still probably quite relevant

Re: Tape for door seals

Are the seals loose on the flange? Normally they need a fair amount of force to pull off. Contact adhesive might be another option

Re: Oil Pressure Gauge / Sensor

Yes, they are both mentioned in the manual, but with no indication of which engines have both. I think the low pressure one would be the only one relevant to a flickering warning light at idle. The parts diagram suggests if only the low pressure sensor is fitted, it would be mounted either in the ...

Re: Oil Pressure Gauge / Sensor

VW's Engines workshop manual describes a method of testing which relies on a special VAG pressure gauge which takes its own pressure reading and compares it with the reading given by the car's sensor. I guess the only practical way to test whether the sensor is faulty would be to substitute it with ...

Re: Heater Blower Motor/Resistor

As far as I know, the plenum chamber is the only possible route for water to get into the heater system (other than through a heater matrix leak, which would result in loss of coolant). Have you checked the entire plenum chamber for debris? If the car is on a sideways slope, the rain water needs to ...
