Current pricing
Hi All,
Not been on here for a while. Life and a garage door has dropped my scirocco down the priority list.
Starting to write up winter to do list and gather parts etc an I couldn’t help noticing that there are a few cars up for sale for strong money.
Is the Scirocco market finally turning? Are they selling? Or are people firing out a high price and hoping that someone will bite?
What’s your thoughts?

Well, a timely post Sir, thank you.

Re: Current pricing
I think some dealers and private sellers are trying to raise the price at the moment with some daft money examples being listed, but at the other end of the market I've seen some auctions finish for sub £500 for projects etc.
Anything from the 80s is booming at the moment though, so average prices will definitely be creeping up.

Re: Current pricing
I thought 95 was a bit low, but it sounds like it’s the figures for the Gtx and gti models only.
My 1991 gt2 has 143K in all round good usable condition, with the odd ding in the body. Upgraded rear disc conversion, new fuel tank, Scala wheels, Jetex exhaust but otherwise standard. Listed with Lancaster insurance at £2750. They have a compliment of pictures backing up this figure.
I wonder if I asked £4500 at next renewal backed up by the same pictures, would they agree to this figure.???? And then you have the scenario of buyers offering low offers because of historical sales value. The world market looks unstable in my eyes due to the phasing out fossil fuel engines. Maybe this could drive up prices of under appreciated models such as our beloved sciroccos. Who knows….

Re: Current pricing
Hi, I wonder if anyone would have some insight in to the value of my Mk2 1984 GTI 1.8 in Mars red,
Is it good condition, taxed and mot’d.
It’s perfectly solid, original alloys, wind sun roof, good dash and 111k miles although the paint job isn’t the best but passable until you look closely.
I’m considering selling it after only doing 200 miles last summer but there doesn’t seem to be 1.8i gti’s for sale to get a ball park. Any ideas. Thanks

Re: Current pricing
As a 1984 example it'll be a pre body kit version which seem to be more desirable (and rare) these days. If it hasn't been messed with in any way you have a good chance of a respectable price. According to Howmanyleft.co.uk just 9 1.8 GTi's on the road with 38 SORN. Of course there may be more than this.
An example with good paint (!) may be worth upwards of 4-5k today according to practical classics mag. So might be worth attending to areas of paint letting it down before selling.
Originality is key for getting the best value. Hope that helps.
Would love to see it if you can attach some pics...

Re: Current pricing
Much appreciated thanks, I’ll attempt to put a picture on with my limited skills, it sounds like a difficult one. The good chap at the body shop has given me an estimate of a bit over the 2k for a full spray to be immaculate and although I’m happy with this for a price if I decide to sell it on I’d be struggling to recoup that. If I can manage to send the photos through I’d appreciate your thoughts. Many thanks again.

Re: Current pricing
Is the paint the original from new or has it been painted before?
I would much rather see a car in it’s original paint with stone chips etc as it’s honest rather than something that’s been painted as a buyer you don’t know what could be lurking underneath.

Re: Current pricing
Unfortunately it has been repainted at some point in time My mechanic chap has had it up on a ramp a couple of years ago and was quite impressed with everything being solid and no rust etc but maybe bumped panels or something over the years etc justifying a paint job. I have no doubt this would reflect in the spray job invoice in due coarse .

Re: Current pricing
Goodness me , that's an 83 model year Scott not 84, single wiper, Tarantula alloys the works. In all fairness to you, as mk1gls hinted at, looks pretty good from that photo distance.
That is a rare beast indeed, and in the best colour too for a GTi in my opinion. I bet a few on this forum checking with their senior managers (aka her indoors) as I write!
She was the first Mk2 GTi brochure Queen in this particular spec and had a GT badge on the B pillar... not a GTi badge as one would have expected. If it has the original white SCIROCCO decal on the rear windscreen I think I'll have an accident!

Gladys, my GL Auto, was registered two months after yours on 1st April 83. She was valued at 5k by Russ Smith of PC magazine a couple of years ago, he said she might make even more at auction so bear that in mind even, as he said, though the GL is not the most "desirable" model.
I suppose what I'm saying is, in my book she's worth the work, but if you decide to go ahead, make it a good quality job and get the correct paint code for Mars Red...
Best of luck with her whatever your choice. If you do, I think it would be great to get them both together to re-create the 1983 brochure shots!
