Re: Hit from behind

Comparing 2 cars which are similar, but one is Cat S is a great idea, thanks for this advice.

I tried a pair of similar VW Polos (circa 2007) and insurance quotes were within 10% of each other both via Direct Line and on Compare the Market (based on cheapest insurer). None explicitly ask whether ...

Re: Hit from behind

Passed the MOT (with an advisory about rear damage).

I submitted an estimate from a crash repair garage for ~£3400 in an attempt to get a cash in lieu of repair settlement (which the insurer initially seemed open to), but unfortunately as this is deemed structural damage, the insurer now says they ...

Re: Hit from behind

This is really useful info, thanks. Can see there’s a lot of useful resources and case studies on the ombudsman’s website. Will make sure I’m well versed in this and collect some examples of other Mk2 Sciroccos for sale/sold ahead of the call on Monday, plus any receipts of part replacements etc ...

Re: Hit from behind

Thanks mate, appreciate your insight and advice.

The only quote I’ve received so far is £1500+VAT for labour alone. Another shop won’t touch older cars like this.

Unfortunately it’s with Direct Line and I don’t have an agreed upon valuation. They said it is uneconomical to repair, so I’ve got a ...

Hit from behind

Unfortunately my beloved Mk2 Scirocco was hit from behind today whilst I was giving way at a junction.

I was doing 0-1 mph at the time and I'd estimate the driver behind was around 10 mph. So a bit of a jolt, but no injuries in either car thankfully. Don't think there will be any bother proving who ...

I suspect Facebook too. I tried it for a while but it was mostly filled with low effort posts without any attempt to search previous posts. I’m no longer on it.

Re: Heater Blower Motor/Resistor

I had an issue with rain water getting into the passenger footwell and am 90% sure the source was the blower motor despite the drainage holes being clear. I formed a generous silicone damn around the return of the cutout where the blower motor sits and haven’t had the issue since. Might be worth a ...

Re: Blower Fan Broken

I’d take a look under the scuttle tray where you’ll also see the resistor (or some electrical component) with connectors that could be broken or corroded. The way I replaced my blower was via the scuttle tray, but had to remove the wiper linkage.

Hello, yes they are still available!

Price a couple of pounds more now with inflation but they’re £17.70 including postage on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324470379776?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=wfgpYcjgRnC&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=wfgpYcjgRnC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Re: Engine cuts during braking, Please Help!

I had the issue of heavy braking resulting in stalling when I first test drove my Mk2 about 9 years ago. I’m not 100% sure this was the culprit, but the fuel lift pump (the low pressure one in the tank) needed replacing. Perhaps the longitudinal forces are resulting in fuel starvation?

You can get ...

Re: Pooling water under scuttle tray

Thanks a lot guys, good to hear there’s nothing wrong.

I think this area didn’t use to be sealed that well which is maybe why I didn’t use to find a puddle.

Reinforcement flange would make sense. Thinking about it, you probably wouldn’t want a drainage hole from under the scuttle tray into the ...

Pooling water under scuttle tray

There is often about 5mm (deepest area) of water pooled under the plastic scuttle/rain tray on my Mk2 Scirocco. It's mostly concentrated in the centre around the heater blower motor. The outboard drainage holes are clear of debris so water should flow freely. However, even once the water drains ...

Thanks so much for your feedback and comments! It’s a good point about a full width one. I’ll experiment with that this weekend and post the result!

Laser etched scirocco artwork

Evening all,

I tried to get a bit artsy with some plywood and a laser and have drawn and etched an impression of the grille/headlights of my MK2 scirocco for hanging up in the house/shed/garage. To me, this is the best looking part of the car. I'm quite happy with how it turned out and wanted to ...

Re: Avus snowflake wheel refurb

Thanks both!

As promised, an update on how they’re holding up. This is right after washing them with regular car shampoo and a sponge, then applying some more wax once they were dry.

Though I would note the car hasn’t done a huge number of miles since the refurb.
