Re: VW birth certificate
PS to above - Just to clarify on GT_II`s comments on the "Penultima", the chassis No. is in fact 004274. The car (K395 UNH) was owned in 2012 by glen66 and in the latter of his two post there is a link to some photo`s. The car is currently taxed and MOT`d and presumably on the road so I am a little ...

Re: VW birth certificate
Hello - Just dropped in to look up some information and I noticed this post. I will confirm that much of what GT_II says is correct in that I am the owner of a VW Scirocco GT MKII 1800 8 valve RHD, chassis No. 004280, which, according to VW was built on the 30.06.1992 was the LAST Scirocco of its ...

Just to state the obvious - DO NOT try this on a car fitted with a cat.
In fact putting anything in your petrol becomes debatable on a car so fitted.

Re: 'Decoke in a can' with head still in place. Fact or fiction?
MikeH is right about this. I got this tip from a drag race friend of mine in the States who knew his engines (World Record holder Super Stocks) and he "tuned up" his customers cars by reving them to 5k and pouring a 2 gal. watering can of water straight into the carb! The first time I saw him do ...

Re: Which engine oil?
Synthetic oil is one of the best lubrication solutions that is currently available however you are right to point out that it may not be the "best" oil for a "high miler" Engines leak oil because gaskets and seals become brittle and crack, shrink or loose their elasticity and ability to "seal ...
Re: dx cam
The guide to a used cam being reuseable or not is that all the lobes should have much the same surface finish and that finish should be matt(ish). Bright shiney lobe tips with grooves or raised lines indicates heavy wear and worse will happen quite soon! Pits can be caused in manufacturing process ...

Re: Valvoline Oil / Viscosity
Have a look at my comments on MacColl`s question about "Oil pick up------" I can`t remember where I picked up the tip of using ATF as a flushing agent but it worked OK on mine recently, at least a lot of the "clatter" on start up has gone. Hydraulic tappets can gum up which makes them slow to pump ...

Re: Oil pick up worth dropping sump and cleaning?
Haynes Golf GTI Performance Manual (Tim Styles) mentions that it`s possible to get a "film" on the mesh on the oil pick up which reduces flow. When I first got my car it clattered like a good un on start up so after sourcing a spare motor just in case, I put 1/2 litre of Auto Trans Fluid into the ...

Re: 6 Bolt cast exhaust manifold
Thanks MikeH. I managed to find some pics/adverts so I now know what you mean. So it turns out I have a Mk 2 Golf manifold :crying: Anyone got a cast 6 bolt for a 1.8 Rocco 2 to sell? Also I`m looking for a cost effective upgrade exhaust. Is there a slightly larger "standard" alternative mid section ...

Re: 6 Bolt cast exhaust manifold
Thanks for that.
Part of the reason I`m asking is that I have aquired a cast 6 bolt manifold which came off a Golf but I`m not sure if it was a Mk1 or a Mk2. Is there an easy way to tell?

6 Bolt cast exhaust manifold
I am thinking of replacing the cast toilet bowl/c clip ex manifold and system on my `92 EX 1800 GT2 with a 6 bolt cast manifold and suitable system. Can anyone tell me if all the 6 bolt manifolds are the same, early/late, 1600/1800?

Your first comment is reassuring. Any thoughts on a good disc/pad setup?

Golf MK2 susp. bits fit Scirocco 2?
Evening all! Is there any interchange between Golf MK2 and Scirocco 2 front suspension and hub/bearing carriers. Would make brake swops a lot easier. This is way too easy for it not to be mentioned in previous threads? Just how good/bad is the standard set up? There is no way that I can lock my ...
