6 Bolt cast exhaust manifold

Post by McMad »

I am thinking of replacing the cast toilet bowl/c clip ex manifold and system on my `92 EX 1800 GT2 with a 6 bolt cast manifold and suitable system. Can anyone tell me if all the 6 bolt manifolds are the same, early/late, 1600/1800?

As far as I know they're all the same, provided they're the Mk1 Golf / Scirocco 8v types. Mk2 golf ones are very different.

Thanks for that.

Part of the reason I`m asking is that I have aquired a cast 6 bolt manifold which came off a Golf but I`m not sure if it was a Mk1 or a Mk2. Is there an easy way to tell?

On a Mk1/Rocco, the downpipe comes out of the middle of the manifold. On the Mk2 golf, it's offset to one side of the manifold - either between 1&2 or 3&4, but I can't remember which side it is.

Thanks MikeH.

I managed to find some pics/adverts so I now know what you mean. So it turns out I have a Mk 2 Golf manifold :crying:

Anyone got a cast 6 bolt for a 1.8 Rocco 2 to sell?

Also I`m looking for a cost effective upgrade exhaust. Is there a slightly larger "standard" alternative mid section available and what suggestions for a non restrictive back box with sensible noise levels?

If you want an upgraded exhaust, buy Jetex or Supersprint. Jetex mild steel 2" systems are about £200 new, and Supersprint will be about double that. They're both high quality, low noise and will give a real (if small) power gain.

Don't go bigger than 2" on or you'll lose power. Cheaper brands aren't worth having.
