headlights not working

Post by AndyJ »

Pre-MOT check on the Scala today and found that the headlights don't come on. The sidelights work just fine so the problem appears to be the dip/main beam switch. With the switch in-situ the main beam won't stay on and the dip beam doesn't work. With the switch removed from the steering column and operated by hand (not the stalk) I can get the main beam to operate and stay on but when switched back to dip again nothing except sidelights.

Is the switch fixable or do I need to source a complete new unit (part number 331 953 519 B I think), if the latter where on earth do I get one from as the usual suspects don't seem to stock them?

Or, is the problem elsewhere and I'm just looking at what I think is the obvious source of the problem.

MOT isn't until Thursday so I have a few days in which to sort the problem out.

Andy

Its normally the switch that causes these symptoms.

Check that part number.

The switches I have are;
321 941 531 g
321 941 531 k
323 941 531 j
321 941 531 f
