In between buying a house and racing the golf, I managed to secure a new drivers side door which is rust free and straight!

Another boring update with no pictures im afraid
So now I have the door to replace what is the only non rust free panel on the whole car I can start being motivated again! who would have though it would take so long to find a decent rust free drivers door!?
Anyway, it got delivered last week and is good/straight and rust free.. Fust goign to wait till I get he car in the garage and change them over. I will leave this job until im ready for the respray.
I dug out my powdercoated rear beam ready to put this together with all the brand spanking new bits for brakes and suspension I have been collecting here there and everywhere.. Only need some brake unions, handbrake cables, cunifer pipe, flexi hoses and all the bushes for the anti-roll bar and beam bushes to have a BRAND new rear beam/brake/suspension setup...
Obviously when all these part materailise I will do a step by step with all the new gleaming parts. Also when I come to fit it, i'll drop the tank and fuel system for a re-furb also.
But rest assured this Rocco isnt being sold anymore, I need to see this through as its such a good solid base, and once I fit all the new bits and more that are lying around my shed and garage, i'll have one very sorted type 53.
Pics this weekend I promise!

Beautiful.
Just a quick tip. Make sure you have a gigantic bottle of wine/keg of beer/ mountain of crack ready for when you do the clamps.

Cheers mate, I agree with those ARB straps... What's the best method other than brute force/luck!? - I'm thinking the extra thickness off the powdercoat isn't going to act in my favour!!

Either get someone with gigantic arms to use grips (still an effort) or use a decent vice (I broke the first one) and do it really slowly

Got the rear beam made up today.. Heres the procedure I went through!

Where the beam has been powder coated the bolt holes were full of crap and rust still..

Quick chase out with a tap, and all were mint again..

Next was to clean up the mating faces so that the torque setting with the stub axle bolts can be accurately achieved...

New backing plates ready to go on..

Stub axles and backing plates being bolted into place with some loctite..

The torqued up correctly to 60nm..

New bearing seal placed on stub axle ready for new Febi bearings..

New rear wheel cylinders attached with loctite and new stainless cap heads

Pads and springs attached along with greasing the relevant parts. Note the adjusts set to minimum adjustment. New handbrake cables attached as well..

And securing springs.

New drums degreased and masked ready for some paint!

And painted!

New bearing backs ready to be pressed into each drum


All in and ready..

New bearing all degreased and ready to fit with some decent grease.

Bearings in and drum on, placing the retaining washer and nut on.

Cage, split pin and grease cap..

On.

Voila..

Ready for brake pipes/lines and bushes! All coming next week

New SACHS gas dampers to match the fronts new ones...

New powdercoted top caps, should last a few years!

Obviously new fastenings..

Today I got half a day to go and play with various bits waiting to go on the Rocco..
I hus bought a 16v servo that required cleaning up, so I de-rused that and gave it a coat or 2 of red-oxide, and then a few of Siminoz 'Tough Black'.. Looks good as new, ready for the new 22.2mm master cylinder that is on order. The one I will use will have 4 outlets so I can do a separate line to each corner. Obviously with the correct restrictor valves out of the old master cylinder for the rear lines..
I will machine some fittings up for the resourvoir holes, and run 2 short lengths of pipe to a resourvoir mounted on the bulkhead to avoid 'packaging' issues as a later date.
Tomorrow I will paint up my rebuilt front calipers and 16v carriers ready to mount on my powdercoted hubs wi th nice new bolts.
Pics to follow as its too dark now!

So with Britcar 24hr out the way and buying a house and finally moving in, some progress has been made!
Finished the rear beam build with SuperPro bushes and new cunifer pipe work, with new clip and flexi's. so I now have a damn near perfect new powedercoated rear beam!
I'll let pics do the talking..





Also got the 22.2mm master cylinder onto the freshly restored servo, new bolts and cleaned resourvoir.. It's a 4 outlet one so I'll redo all the lines with cunifer to suit as well.. So each corner has a separate line.

Scirocco 16v carriers and rebuilt Girling 54 callipers off a mk2 16v golf.. All enamelled black 'stealth' look.

Ready to mate to fresh hub with fresh 256mm disks
