Whilst poking around looking for where my car is leaking from I noticed this cable behind the dash on the passenger side. I have highlighted it in some photos below, there is also one the same on the drivers side, it comes up from below the dash and goes through a hole in the pillar.
Cannot understand why there would be a cable running up there?
Its definitely a cable of some sort, for some reason I hadn't thought of the interior light and yes it has had an alarm at some point in its past.
Can anyone confirm if it is the interior light? Seems a bit thick and why does it go up both sides as well though?
Does anyone know if it is possible for water to be leaking out of the pillar where the cable is coming through as there does not appear to be a grommet of any sort?
I thought they might be sunroof drain pipes but It doesnt make any sense as to where they are going, they appear to be going from behind the dash into the pillar.
Yet when I look in from the bonnet the sunroof drain pipes appear to go directly into the pillars without passing through the interior of the car?
When I stripped my Mk2 golf I found that there were potential screws that may snag the drainage pipes/drains from the sunroof. This might explain why they might be routed a certain way away from certain sharp points or obstructions.
The drain pipes I removed from my old B plate were a cream colour.
They come down the four pillars and out just behind the wheel arch section at each corner.
