The shoulder on the old studs will prevent the new rubber gasket seating and sealing properly.

You need to change the studs.

Yeh that veedubmachine is very cheap, theres an ebay shop aswell.
Bought my brother a rear window mechanism for his MK2 golf from there, hasn't broken yet, not that it ever gets used.
I think I bought a heater valve from them a while back too which still works to date.

In response to the appalling ability of some of the VW parts people, I have my own copy of VAGcat now and it makes life so much easier.

If anyone wants to post me a stamp and a CD I'll happily send you a copy.
