If you go to a dealer and ask for a rocker gasket they will (should!) sell you a MK3 Golf one which is rubber and one piece. In the box is included studs to swap your existing ones for. I have changed both mine for these, no leaks and easy as to fit.

The rubber gasket is thicker than the cork one, hence the need for new studs.

The studs for the cork gasket have a shoulder on them.
The studs for the rubber gasket do not.

If you search for 'rocker gasket part number' you should find a post with the part number and maybe even a picture.

Sounds cheap for the gasket and the studs. Are you sure that includes the studs?

Hope so......will find out later as it's due in today for collection, I'll confirm later...

....Well should have known better. Turned up to collect it today & guess what... yes it was a cork one, despite the parts person saying when ordered that they did not do them anymore & I was getting the rubber one with studs!! :ire: So I politely said you can put that back in stock & had my refund.

Drove 200yards to GSF & bought a rubber one for £10.20...as I have the later DX engine they say that it 'should' be ok with original studs... I'll see later :swoon:

It's precisely this scenario that I have ended up rarely using VW or for that matter GSF. Trying to explain to someone that a lot of 8v parts off something like a MK3 Golf will fit a Mk2 Scirocco is impossible :dash:

If you are stuck and it has the correct studs..

oh and another option is to grind the shoulders off the existing studs to work with a rubber gasket, tedious I know

When i did this the new studs seemed massive. old ones would have done...
