Re: chocco rocco
yeah thats jules' slag. cant be anyone else with a john deer green rocco around surely!
Re: chocco rocco
Get those arches flares and rolled right out. Shame about the sus, thats a problem buying an already modded car isnt it.
Re: chocco rocco
Bought some shiny and some usefull bits last week. :)

Now i'm just deciding whether to go for an ashley 4 branch or the dubpower 4 branch manifold. both will be the same sort of price when a flexi section has been tacked onto the ashley. But the dub power is shiny and the ashley 100% definitely works and is less prone to cracking being mild not stainless, but needs a bit of porting to get the most from it whereas the dubpower doesn't. anyone have any experiences?
Ashley

Dubpower

Also, been offered a good price for a port/polished head :D. 120 cfm intake and 77 cfm exhaust, so should cope with 190hp before it needs any more work. Also, with the lairy cams, head work, exhaust system and bike carbs tuned correctly i should theoretically be looking at about 180hp at the fly. should be enough for a light car

Re: chocco rocco
Horrible dilemma :(
to break or not break the scirocco.
she's currently sitting in the yard, needing a new exhaust and an intake manifold making for the carbs. otherwise all she needs is a little work on the arches, body kit refitting if wanted, a new bonnet and maybe a respray to get her looking great again. but mechanically its just the exhaust and intake mani (plus fitting the new engine mounts and gear linkage parts) :(
now, work has got me travelling all over (Oman, panama, gibraltar etc etc) i cant seem to find the time to get these last few bits finished. Add to that my current daily died and im looking at replacing it with a mk4 golf v6 4motion, and the idea of having the scirocco running for sumer as a toy/show car seems to be quickly going out the window :(
if i could sell her for 1k, id do it. no questions, id rather she went and was used properly. but i know thats an unrealistic price for a non runner. however, i keep being asked about parts; engine, box, interior, wings etc and could easily make a grand if i split it and still be left with a shell which could be scrapped for a bit of dollar or sold/given away for use on here.
what should i do :( if money is the objective, splitting her makes sense but i feel so guilty for it.
anyone want a mk2 chocco roco :(

Re: chocco rocco
okay so a slightly happier update. I felt guilty when walking past her this morning haha...
decided to completely strip the interior - seats, carpets and sound proofing all out. was soaking, think my sunroof is leaking a bit :/ so all washed and drying in the barn. replaced the rear door cards with better ones i had spare and cleaned the rest of the interior before it rained.
cant bring myself to strip her down so im just going to take my time and build her into sommet nice. a mate from uni is making me a new inlet manifold for the carbs, and ill buy a new exhaust in the next week. hopefully i'll get her in the shop for a respray in 3 months.
bit of a side note; i have a tonne of spares sitting in the garage i dont need/want if anybody needs anything cheap.
nearly full 16v k-jet system,
GTX/GT2 body kit,
spare seats/frames,
steering rack (with adjustable rods on either end - from a mk1 caddy)
polished 16v inlet manifold and throttle body - top part only (bottom used to mani new manifold :) )
i'll also be after a new bonnet for her in any colour if anyone has one they would like to shift? slightly damaged is okay, beats the 12x6" hole i have in mine...haha
cheers

Re: chocco rocco
Going through the same thing bud. just bought a polo gt as a run about and having so much fun in it, god it loves to rev. Put mine up for breaking now as i don't think i am going to get it finished. My mates offered to store it at his for a while but no sure. Keep it and get it done otherwise you will regret it haha.
Re: chocco rocco
good news
manifold is being made, exhaust is ordered and i have the weekend to do a few more bits to her. should start to see some progress now. :)

Re: chocco rocco
had the past 3 days to work on the car. lovely :)
exhaust manifold fitted
oil catch tank fitted
rear gearbox mount fitted
ground off rust from arches to see what metals left haha.
treated as much as i could with rust converter - even if its going to be welded. should keep the rust at bay.
some pics from today, with a damn cold start!

worst of the rust removed

Re: chocco rocco
had a spare sunday after a seriously hectic 2 months!
so i cracked on with the rocco. fixed the bulkhead leak, wired in an electric boot locker, relocated the immobiliser and alarm system, refitted the carpets and seats, fitted new horns, then gave those arches a blow over.
now, the arches, these haven't had all the welding sorted yet which is a shame. however, the small patches which require doing can easily be repainted when sorted. at least the majority of the car doesn't look so rough now! unfortunately, i did respray the bonnet, but as its undercoat was black it'll need a few more layers to get a good finish. but as its so battered I'm tempted to just leave it and not waste another 30 quid on paint. I'll get pictures of it all next weekend as i think i have a spare saturday.
progress is being made on the manifold too, should be done in a week. ill try and get some pictures, but for now heres a couple of shots after i finished spraying last night.
cheers

Re: chocco rocco
manifold being made by julian with the john deer green rocco. tubes aren't tacket yet, just getting the alignment sorted. will be very nice. :D

EDIT:
little more progress on the manifold. should be ready when i get home on the 27th, ill bosh it all back together and get some pics. now do i colour code my rocker cover or spray it black???
and the rims, what colour should they go. think the chrome effect works quite well, but the finish is very poor so needs re-doing. a polish would look great, but a bugger to clean. open to suggestions though.

Re: chocco rocco
ok, small, but some progress has been made.
the manifold has been finished, rocker cover gasket changed and rocker cover sprayed/polished. internally i have re-fitted the 16v steering wheel.
just need to fit the alternator bracket, change the cam belt/tensioner, change the oil/filter, and sort some electrical gremlins then ill put her through an MOT.
hope i can get it working for summer!!
anywho, pictures :)

toying with the spare wheels. need a respray, probably in matt black. bit unsure about them.

oh, and the latest distraction

Re: chocco rocco
Get some updates :), Iv only just noticed your reply on my wanted thread, most prob would have had this off you but bought a Rado the other week.
Re: chocco rocco
i will, but not had any time to work on her since the last update haha. i would hate to sell her, but would let it go to someone who would finish the work and use her properly.
if i refill the coolant and check the oil i should be able to start her up when im back (16th june) but till then shes just sitting there looking unhappy.
the to do list is;
coolant change
oil change
cambelt change
alt belt change
sort some wiring gremlins (horn, boot popper)
fit throttle cable
fit choke cable
put some wheels on her
then book an MOT.
cannot wait. just need the time to do it!

Re: chocco rocco
SHE"S ALIVE!!!
sounds incredible with the carbs, 4 branch and stainless system. really raspy roar. And by god does it have some throttle response! haha.
i'll see if i can get a short vid of her running soon. otherwise, shes going to a mates garage for some welding over the next few weeks, then its mot time! i've had to stow her away up the side of the house though for now.
happy days indeed!
