Seized struts top bolts!

Post by Bonusrocco »

I'm taking out my suspension struts, front and rear. The rear lower bolts came out fine, but the top nut holding the rubber mount it just wont come off! Normally these are easy! I've sheared of the flat bit at the top using not so glamorous mole grips. I just dunno what to do now. :dash:

What techniques do you guys use for getting these nuts off?

The fronts are the same, ive tried using the allen key thru a socket trick but its no good.

:help:

I usually loosen them (front and rear) before jacking up the car, as the car's weight in compressing the piston is extra help in stopping it turning with the nut.

With the front struts, once you have taken them off the car, take them to your local friendly garage and ask them to use their air gun on the top nut. Make sure that you have spring compressors on the springs first though.

Cordless impact wrench + deep socket. Works (nearly) every time.

60-100 GBP at B&Q - use and return :mafia:

8/9pm usually - the "Depot" ones open later as I recall.
