Bit of a paint marathon this afternoon. Got the engine painted along with the roll bars and another finish coat on fuel tank and straps.
After i finshed all that the rear calipers caught my eye, that started making me think about the rear beam...
Ive just made abit of work for myself again as ive forgoten that i need to weld two little brake hose bracketson to it where the caliper hoses will now meet the copper pipe....balls..
Next up will be the polybushes for the roll bars and stack all the refurb parts away till underneath is welded and shutzed.

Think im going to go with the bmw m3 white. Ive seen a few around and it looks rather tasty. Thats the new m3's

G Beats.Been into MK 2 V.W Sciroccos since 98.Now on my fourth MK 2 Scirocco. R.I.P two MK 2 Scala DX Engine's.Sold GT 2. No longer have a mk 2 v.w Scirocco as it was stolen back in February 2020 .Or another one know have a 1980s BMW.

Much headscratching the other day but it appears i managed to conquer what ive wanted to do. I hate wiring usally but vw make it very simple if you dont think to hard. I have tho dash lights and tail lights and indicators all running through a early gtx loom and fuse box. I got to yet check if the fuel pump is live along with the engine bits n bobs eg isv. It also appears a mk2 golf valver complete engine loom plugs up nicely which will make me intensly happy if the isv works!!
Not sure if anyones done it before but i was cuffed after a lot of snipping & soldering for the dash harness to see lights.....yay...

The first two pics are the removal of the old. Good job i did as there is some much "cut n shut" on the loom. Poor pics i know the light wasnt good in the mancave,by the works well when your looking a for dash lights

Jakey, if the ISV gives you jip and you decide to junk it and its spaghetti, an 8v Aux Air Valve between the airbox trunking and the cold start valve will do the job.

Ahh thank you my man... Yeap really happy on the progress of everything so far. More so on the looms. Know of anywhere that does pattern sound proofing as narlys is hanging...

sound proofing for under the carpets mate? Newton Commercial sell both bitumen sound deadening pads and the shaped stuff under the carpets: http://www.newtoncomm.co.uk/cars/vw/pro ... series=203

Bit of progress today..
If you've read the above last post you will see that ive removed the old wiring loom completely along with the bullet type fuse box. All this is being replaced with the mk2 set up.
First up was to crack the rear light wiring pretty easy as trusty vw's use the same (almost) colour coding on there looms.(Tick) rear lights working, brake lights working number, plate lights working, Rear fog & switch warning light working (altho im going to bin it) Reversing lights not working (engine loom missing)
Next fuel pump & sender. Sender working, no power at pump wires due to engine loom missing (picks up a feed)

Next inline was the dreaded dash and switches....Hazard switch working, fog light switch working, Heated rear screen and tell tail not working (not connected)
Checked power to volt gauge and clock power there and ready...Heater switch works on all settings, Indicator warning light working, temp gauge & light working (not sure how) fuel gauge working, light switch working (for rear lights at mo) ....
Interior light working.
Dash lights not working
Hnadbrake light not working
Horns not working (missing horns)
Pretty pleased so far with the outcome and the fuse box tucks up nicely to.
Just need to grab a headlight loom, fit the golf 16v engine loom in with the mocked up engine so i can 1 see what else needs to me made longer or shorter, and need to check the front lights....
Chuffed...
Shame its all gotta be ripped out again

The wiring upgrade looks the ducks nuts Jake, intend doing this to my latest arrival since its also getting the 16V treatment ( and pissed of with the old bullet fuseboxes )

I have checked on Classic vw parts list, all the plugs are available still from VW. The terminals can also be had from vehicle wiring products ( near Derby ) if ya need them ;)


If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor

Happy to now annouce that every thing works apart from the rear wash wipe,power there so could be a duff motor.
Had been thinking of doing away with it for that smooth flush look......

Anyway car is now ready for more hacking & welding and then paint in the spring now ive finished messing with looms.
All gone...just

Only thing that will remain in the car is the head lining as i dont want to touch it really.
Just the glass to be removed for the paint.

Next up dates will be of the car on a spit roasting away under the welding torch curtisty of a butters welder !!! :ok:

You dont need to buy any plugs dude. Just remove all your old mk1 loom. chop the dash plug wiring giving yourself enough for soldering.
The wiring is the same colours on the switches, plugs for the spot lamps need spade connectors fitted same as when you get to the rear end all the colours are the same and do the same, you just need to add on the spade connectors to the mk2 loom rather than the plug.

If i get time i'll write up a "how to" on it...dead simple..
