Kamei GTX - Finally Finished?

Started to get the tank cleaned up, didnt get far tho

least i'd got a spare to fall back on Shag managed to get it in to work, luckily this one was in much better shape than mine - still needed building up with mazel in places tho!

and back in place along with a new fuel pump carrier, just waiting for the new fuel lines to turn up and i'll get it plumbed back in! Also got the exhaust, rear beam and suspension back on the car - the polybushes are bloody tight, so much better than the knackered ones i took off! With the beam back on i got new rear brake lines in place, just waiting for the calipers to go back on the beam and i'll get the system bled

While i had the time i had a look at the kamei front end



Not in such a good condition, barely still in one piece but thankfully its still just about rapairable!



Got the back strengthened with fibreglass sheets and resin, several layers in places so its nice and strong again. Just got to rub it down, fill the front and prime it - in no rush tho so it can wait

Next up was taking the screen out



Had some rust on the near side 'A' post that needed sorting



Hit it with the linisher and prompty put a nice hole in it. Luckily i knew it would happed and when i built the trailer i kept both on the A posts so i could repair mine when i finally got round to it



cut the rusted areas out



then welded the new section in, linished the welds down, filled and primed. Gave it a coat of 'hard hat' anti rust top coat before the screen went back in. Speaking of which.....



Just as the last corner of the seal was going in the bastard thing broke!!!!!!

So now i need a new screen

Been a while since i've done anything to the car but with the last 2 days being so nice i thought i'd get back on it!

Not got many pics as ive had my phone away being repaired (bloody touchscreens ) Managed to get the rear end almost completely back together, just waiting on the rear arb clamps and it'll be done! As ive smashed the front window i needed a new ariel (had a screen mounted one and i think its the only thing holding the glass together at the monent ) so i've fitted a shark fin on the roof, i did think about a 'B' sting but fancied something different; it doesnt actually look bad and surprisingly suits the car!

Also decided to get the dash finished off. I didnt want the elec window switches in the centre console anymore and didnt really want them up high on the corrado dash. Had a good look around my local scrap yard to see what was about that i could mod into my door cards.....



There is actually a fair amount of room in there to run all the wiring! Yet to do the passenger door but it'll only be a single switch mounted in the same place. Quite pleased with the look really

Now the reason for the update, the lower dash sections took alot (read: bloody hours!!!!!) of time to get trimmed properly until i was happy with them. Then just as long to get the standard lower console trimmed/shaped so it would fit into place below the new dash - will be changing this for a new one with no holes in at a later date, just used it to see how it would look



Got the dash polished since i took this and its looking rather good

Been a while sonce ive updated this!

Got a bit more done, progress has been a bit slow over the last month tho

Found a rust hole in one of the more unusual places - cant ever recall seeing a 'rocco rust here!



Cleaned all the rust out and got it repaired nicely



The other side of the car is absolutely fine

With that fixed i got all the suspension back in place, new bushes/ball joints etc and re-painted the calipers and replaced all the brake lines - it surprised me how fast the goodridge ones had gone rusty!



The brake system is finished, had a right mare getting all the air out of the rear calipers! Ended up having to hold them with the bleed nipple facing upwards to get the air out Plus went through 3 different pad makes to get the right ones for the front!!!!!!

With the brakes done ive turned my attention back to getting it painted - i loathe doing bodywork




Got the bumpers and tailgate primed and ready for its new paint, still got a fair amount of work on the car before its ready for primer tho! Sharkfin doesnt look too out of place, does it?

Ordered the paint to give myself a bit more motivation to get it done



Hopefully it wont look too bad once its done!

Re-furbed a steering rack while i had the time to spare, never taken one apart before so found it intresting - thankfully haynes has all the needed meaurements i needed!



Looks so much better than the one currently on my car! As you can see ive got stuff everywhere, repainted front ARB, drying tailgate hinges and fuel filler cap! It's slowly getting there tho

And, after i adjusted a few more bits on the undertrays

Given how good the weather was today i made the most of it by getting a few things done



Had these turn up this morning so promptly got them fitted on the rear beam - what a bastard they are too!!

Finished getting the car rubbed down and got the rear arches almost there - just a bit more work to do on the one side but it can wait

Knackered now but im starting to see light at the end of the tunnel!!

With having a nice friday off i took the chance to start spraying some of the car parts ive had ready in the garage.



Got everything cleaned up and prepped,



Didnt take too long, just waiting for everything to dry now! While i had some paint left in the gun i thought i'd see how it looks on the car



Not too bad, hopefully when it dries it will be more matt than it is now!

So, after finally deciding what colour to do the car i promptly changed my mind. Decided i didnt think the car would look how i wanted all in the black, so i decided to do something completely different

Firstly i had to re-prime the bumpers and filler cap (mirrors/sunroof are staying black)



Nothing like doing the same job twice

Now, the colour i decided on is a bit brighter than i thought it would be!



I like!!

Plan is to keep the mirrors, 'B' posts, roof and tailgate in the black but do the rest of the car in the orange

Deffinately gonna stand out now

i'll be loking to do a dash conversion in the future, just took an entire dash, dash loom, heater bower and matrix aswell as the steering column and pedal box out of a G60 raddo...

all sitting in my shed at the mo, recon i could use it all??
i know about the column for a hydro cluch later but i was hoping to use the heater to fix the problem with the ducting,
and i dint realize you have to cut that much down!!!

and what did you do about the center console? i'm ganna try use the entire lot fr?om the raddo
