Went into the garage with a hungover head again this morning, finding it hard to stay out of the beer gardens when the weather is like this. Got the car up on the ramps and fitted some exhaust clamps which resolved the slight blowing that i could hear, its sounding pretty nice now

Where the coilovers have been settling i also had to retighten up the front and rear nuts that come through the turrets. Next up i cleaned up the scuttle cover using some WD40, surprised how well it came up. I am short of a few of the clips that hold this to the panel. If anyone has some can you drop me a line?

Also had a delivery from the postman today all the way from the USA. I think this really finishes off the 'new front' of the car.

Wanted to get the bonnet back on today too but ive misplaced the washers so will pick some more up tomorrow hopefully

looks like you are missing the rubber strip that fits along the top of the scuttle mate!

Well spotted Ian have now put that back on!
Have been having some major issues with the electrics the last couple of weeks. Once the headlights were fitted i started the car and turned them on, when turning on the lights i would lose the rev counter, the high beam warning light would come on and the MFA display completely disappeared. This was rather strange and would point to a bad earth. This really put a set back on MOT time and effectively brought things to a halt. Im happy to report though that today the issue was resolved. After checking earths all over the place we removed the clocks and it turns out an earth to the back of the clocks had come away and dropped down into the abyss. It was finally found and reattached and hey presto problem resolved.

Once that was done i set about making a bracket to hold my cold air feed in place and stop it flapping around. I used a thin strip of stainless to do the job and it turned out okay.



I managed to use existing holes in the slam panel to attach this so the only clue to it being there is a stainless bolt on the panel but i can live with that


The list of things to do is now on one hand and they are all fairly small jobs so i hope to have it booked in for its test within the next two weeks

Just popped back down to the garage to fit the new steering wheel, much prefer the look and feel of this wheel. Its a Votex in leather with nice red stitching. So the Corrado/Polo wheel will be up for sale shortly

Ticking things off quite quickly now, today picked up some stainless washers for the bonnet hinges and got the bonnet back on and adjusted up. Also got the number plate back on in its place (its spent the last god knows how long on the dash) Its surprising how different it looked with the bonnet back on, once i finish a couple of other bits i will be able to put the grille back on again and see the final look.

Got out of work slightly earliy today as i was looking forward to fionishing off the front. Started off by altering the bracket to hold the air intake. As it was close to the bonnet release i didnt want the air intake wandering upwards so took a piece of stainless and used it as a clamp against the other piece to ensure movement is minimal.

Next up i put on a golf ball gearknob

Once the bracket was reattached it also meant i could put on the front grille and close the bonnet. Im well chuffed with how she looks from the front

All i need now is a sidelight bulb holder a couple of clips and its MOT time, hopefully within a week, then i can get cracking on the bodywork and wheels etc She also needs a blimin good clean inside and out

Not a lot to report today, until the MOT is done and passed there wont be much more to report really. Tailgate, wheels and exhaust plus installation of speakers/subs/electric windows will all be addressed post MOT, for tonight though i took her out of the garage and gave her a bit of a wash and while i was at it took a few pictures cos everyone loves pictures!!

Cheers Alex, she came up quite well after a good wash, the bodywork does need attention in places, as for Cosford i might make it for Saturday day but not 100% yet due to other commitments, would be good to go though as i havent attended a meet yet (largely to not having the rocco for nearly a year!)

Took a trip down to the dealers this morning to collect a new reverse light switch. The old one had seen better days, was a nice morning for a cycle too. Fitted it in and fired the engine up, i have reverse lights again, thanmkyou Mr VW
All that is standing between me and the MOT tester now is a sidelight bulb holder..

No real update this week, have tried reattaching my interior mirror with no luck, will get a pad at the weekend. In the meantime the MOT has been booked for next Thursday. Fingers crossed please everyone!

I can highly recommend the Loctite rear-view mirror fitting kit (about £5 from Halfords). It has a fine plasticky mesh that you cut to size and a tube of bonding adhesive. Worked perfectly for me.
