Poor Running And Hissing Noise.

Post by Risocco »

Hi guys, my carb'd GT is not playing ball.

Turned her over yesterday and there was a slight noise, like something flew off upon starting, and the car will not idle happily at all. Have to pull the choke out a fair way to idle around 1800rpm. Won't idle at anything lower. Have not run the car up to temperature incase I cause further damage.

Opening the bonnet with the engine running there is a rather loud hissing noise, like pressurised air escaping. Either from the head or carb can't quite pin-point it.

No play in the carb gasket which was my original thought, any ideas chaps? Any help would be grand :beers:

Hi mate, I would have a grope around the carb for any vacuum hoses that have come off and also the vacuum hoses to the brake servo and dizzy. Listen where the hissing is the loudest should help focus the area to search for problems.

Agreed, could easily be a vac hose. If not, check the inlet mani gasket, the little rubber thingy that goes around the water inlet failed on mine and casued a rubbish idle and a hiss. Good luck matey!

Seconded on the vac hose (to the brake servo) as when I was messing around with mine after the fire I put on a new on but didn't block an open whole (used to go else where on the injec engine it came off) and it would idle prolplerly/at all.
