changed the rocker gasket to great effect ( cleaned it up and it looks lovely )
BUT....
i still have a leak in the same spot..
i fear MATT may be correct with the front camshaft oil seal suggestion..

is that a tricky fix ?

check the gasket is in the correct location, tighten then nuts abit more....still looks like the r/c gasket to me.

if not remove the belt cover and run engine, if cam or intmdt shaft seals leaking you will see oil flowing from seal..haynes also covers the refitting and removal of these seals well.

the bolts are pretty tight ( to haynes sepc )
i havent run the car with the belt cover off ... will try !

removal and re fitting this seal sounds pretty involving ( especially when all my repairs are done in the street and i have to keep moving for traffic )

nah not that difficult, first establish where the leak is coming from before you go buying and replacing shaft oil seals.....

also remember to refit the 2 10mm nuts to the r/cover before you start engine as an oil leak similar to the present one will occur..

did you fit a cork or rubber gasket ????.
did you run engine with the cam cover removed ????.

if i was in front of the car i could tell you whats going on. your last post would suggest that its coming from the top somewhere, was there oil coming from the cam shaft seal ?????? when engine running with cam cover inplace, can you see oil comming out of the r/cover gasket at the back......if its the cam seal its easy to change but you will have to remove/refit the timming belt which involves setting the cam timming which is tricky for someone with basic skills (see haynes).

yes post some piccys........running engine without cam cover is ok aslong as you refit the 2 10mm nuts that you removed to remove the top cambelt cover to prevent oil leaking from head, also tie the throttle and speedo cables out of the way of the belt...when engine running.
