Brake Dust

Right, what does everyone else use to stop brake dust sticking to alloys?

I can clean the wheels, go for a short drive and they'll be caked in the damn stuff again!!

I'd try different pads.
I'm currently using Pagid std and they create loads of dust. Previously I've had Pagid FR, Greenstuff and Mintex and none of them created much dust, so not alot to clean off ;)

I'm using mintex at the moment, they dont seem to of worn much at all since i fit them but i'm getting fed up of cleaning black dust off the wheels

Isn't there some sort of wax you can buy for wheels? Got the same problem, except mine gets baked on and wont come off

Clean them with Wonder wheels, great stuff.

I was reading a few old VW motoring magazines from the early 90's, ECP used to sell these things that were supposed to keep brake dust off your wheels.
Might be worth giving them a call.

Wonder wheels is effective, but a bit harsh. I use Wheel Brightener which is similar as a last resort. Generally Bilberry http://www.valetpro.co.uk/Products/Exte ... s/Item1184 shifts everything. Best advice is to clean them regularly so it doesn't build up too much.

If you want the Throbbe OCD approach I would take the wheels off. Clean with whatever works for you. Use a tar remover to get all the spots off. Use an old clay bar to get them really clean, then Autoglym Super Resin Polish, followed by Poorboys Wheel Sealant, about 3 coats, 2 hours between each. Clean and dress the wheelarches while the wheels are off.
