Parking Light Won't Go Off

Post by MikeH »

My left side and tail light have decided to stay on - car is a '92 Scala i

My neighbour called to tell me my parking light was on this morning, so I nipped down, thinking I'd left the indicator in the parking light position, but it's not. The indicators still work normally, so I don't think it's the stalk.

Does anyone know a likely cause for this, or do I need to play 'hunt the short circuit'?

Do you have a factory fit alarm?

No - there's an old GT Alarm in there, but it's mostly disconnected (never been armed in the 3 years since I've had the car)

Rules that out then.

I'd poke about the back of the fusebox as thet seems to be the primary cause of most ills - has it ever leaked in that area because the connectors corroade and casue all kinds of problems - i've replaced 2 or 3 now to remove electrical gremlins

Do factory fitted alarms cause this problem then Andy?

I've never even seen a factory fitted alarm!

Weird problem though Mike, let us know what you find.

Sounds like a short to me, or a knackered relay... but I haven't delved into the nitty gritty of Rocco electrics in depth yet

Well i can't answer for all of them but occasionally mine does. Usually turning on/off/on/off/on/off sorts it but i have had to play with the connector to the alarm plus the fuses until it cures it. Age and corrosion plus dampness seems to be the issue. Sometimes it leaves al th eindicators on permantly which renders the indicators and hazards useless. Always a joy

Haha! I see bud, my project Golf has decided to do exactlly the same as Mikes car, and mine has a VW alarm you see. Resorted to taking the bulbs out of the indicators for a quick fix. Cheers for the info bud.

I think I know what the cause is ... a leaky boot lock seal.
