Which cylinder heads fit?
OK, so as above, which cyl heads fit onto an EW 1.6 carb'd engine block? I know some injection heads fit, but require some cheeky modifications of the old injector holes using coins/gearbox plugs, but has anyone got engine codes? This is to source a replacement head for my GT if mine hasn't been sorted after this weekend!

Yeah, 1.8 carb and injection will bolt up mate, think new Beetle crossflow heads fit too. Perfect grounds for twin carbs?
Sent you PM mate in regards to heads.

Re: Which cylinder heads fit?
No worries - there might be more (I'm not sure on the engine code for an 1800 carb Scirocco, for example). Those should be the common golf ones though.

Re: Which cylinder heads fit?
I've got a 1.6 GT as my daily runner at the moment. It's got a really low compression engine, so I personally wouldn't bother fitting head/cams or carbs on to try and up the performance. IIRC it's got the same bore as the DX, so the head should just bolt on, but I think the con rods are shorter (or the crank has a smaller throw), which results in less compression and the 1.6 capacity.

Re: Which cylinder heads fit?
^^ As Brunty says^^ it's a low compression engine. The head volumes are all about the same IIRC, but if you're tuning for performance you're better of starting with the 1800 or 2.0 block, or at the very least, heavily skimming the block or head (1.5 - 2mm in total, depending on your cam choice).
I read this thread as being about fixing a standard car, but if it's a tuning question, the answer changes a bit.

Re: Which cylinder heads fit?
The question was more about fixing a standard engine than trying to squeeze any performance out. If my head is knackered then the injection/1.8 blocks seem to be a lot more common than the 1.6EW, that was the only reason for asking.
