If your head is hydraulic tappet, then the EARLY mk3 golf cams will fit (2E engine). However, they're milder than the Mk2 golf item (and the DX one) so not really a good upgrade.

Later Mk3 heads have an extra cam bearing cap, so the cams might not swap so easily.

Sorry for jumping in on this thread, but are people saying that the cam from the DX engine is the one to get to upgrade the EX? I have hydraulic tappets.

I'm pretty sure that's the vibe. I hope so coz that's exactly what I'm about to do. I've got a GT2 carb and I'm putting a scala inj cam on it which as far as I'm aware is upgrading from EX to DX. Someone stop me if I'm wrong!

the cam is indeed out of an early mk3 gti (l reg) but if it isnt as agressive and not worth it il not bother fitting it. it was free anyway so iv not lost out.
cheers!

I've just go myself ahold of one... but just to ask the more experienced fella's out there - I have acquired a cam from a '91 Scala 8v inj. This'll be the DX engine, right? However, someone once mentioned to me something about the cam coming from a digifant model. Can anyone elaborate on this..? :dunno:

Scirocco injction models (1.8i) were all DX engine codes. VW never put a digifant into a Scirocco.

Ok, cheers Ian :good: I think the Digifant they mentioned was a Golf, apparently those models have the hydraulic tappets and it's those cams that work in the Scirocco 8v carb. I don't want to start annoying people here, though - I just want to be 100% sure before I fit the DX cam. Don't want it to set me back another track day :crying:

Yes mate, Golfs GTIs from 87 onwards had digifant, it is not just about the tappets, the injection system was different.
Sciroccos after 85 (I think) had hydraulic tappets as well.

What have you upgraded on it? That was 90bhp as standard wasn't it?
