whineing 5th

hello
Scala 1.8i 1990

jumps out of 5th gear at 80 and whines...all the others are fine.

what would be causing that..collapsed bearing ?

is it worth replacing the worn parts or just get a used box..

if so which boxes are straight swaps

Id go for another box, pref one with less miles.
Have a look at the gearbox code, stamped underneth gearbox where it meets the engine. There is a smooth bit of alloy there with the code.
Then use the "gearbox code's" found at the top of this page to find a match..
