For my build I have replaced the fuel lines front to back as they apparently of a different bore to carb'd.
You will need to run three exta wires to the rear if going injection.
live and earth for the fuel pump and an extra live for the in tank pump.

It's only sorting the loom out now thats causing me problems. I don't know wether it'd be easier now to just strip out the carb'd loom and fit the complete KR loom instead..

you only need the engine loom from the 16v, you can keep the standard fuse box and just run the extra relay for the fuel pump (as I annoyingly found out after refitting my entire fuse box lol).
Not sure how it all hangs together with MFA etc cos I am not running them.

relay is number 53 iirc.
Sits in position 3 on the box and the fuse is in position number 5.. Strains manual has the details lol

Just incase anyone is tempted to try this conversion..But worried/anxious etc etc, just do it! It's so easy its unreal!!

You did this swap in a 1.6 gt? I always thought converting to a injection was a massive pain in the rear. I have no real mechanical experience but am learning as i go along, how hard is the conversion for a relative amateur? A step by step guide may be useful for a lot of peeps haha.

Mate, I am left handed for a kick off and was aware of the basics needed but am certainly no expert with tools!
Good guidance and advice from fellow rocco owners and car mechanics has seen me steer the project ok.
If anything I would not put deadlines on yourself to get the project done, I tried this for a long time as most will remember IT DONT WORK!
Only now after just short of 2 years is the project looking anything close to complete!
I obviously done it the hard way, with an injection model it would be easier to start with.
My pics show whats going on from page 1 on Photobucket.
I always tried to update as much as possible on my build thread also.
Never be afraid to ask the q's on here, there are enough of us that have done this conversion and will be able to offer some advice.
In terms of cost... The project in total owes me somewhere near £2000 at present and I still have about another £500 to go.
If any easier have you thought about running a 16v carb set up? Bike carbs seem to be the way forward.. ask the question in the Engines section.

Yeah, i performed the swap from a 1.6GT..The hardest bit so far has been poking the old carb'd wiring back through the bulk head and wriggling the plug free. Thats right! ONE plug in the fuse box is all i've needed to change. It's taken 2 days so far and I should imagine it'll be running by wednesday at the latest.
Granted, the engine doesn't look very pretty, and i've not cleaned the bay at all and theres a few rusty bits and I haven't touched the brakes (yet). I'm also trying the engine on a 4+E box to see how it goes..

Have you shortened the loom at all on yours? My wiring is a right mess.

I've seen engine conversion specialists offering to convert to G60 or VR6 for around £2000. Would that not make more sense than putting all that time and effort in yourself, not doing as proffessional a job and still paying out the same money? I'm considering an engine conversion myself and can't see the benefits of a DIY job. Anyone got any advice?Rusty dan wrote: In terms of cost... yes kieron thats the easy route, one big lump sum and job done, but wheres the fun, the knowlege gained, if it breaks down you have a better chance of fixing it yourself

Totally get that. If I had lots of spare time, I'd probably go for it myself. I won't be doing it dead soon anyway so we'll see what happens once I've got the cash together. Reckon I'd be tempted to have someone else do it still though!

If it makes any difference..My conversion cost considerably less that £2000.
£300 on the car + £65 on the engine + loom, then 3 weekends worth of faff.

This is a mates, he's runing it on 4 bike carbs with a full stainless exhaust
