Brake drum help

Hey guys,

Does anyone know what drums I require for my rocco. It’s a 1992 Kjet scala.
I’ve been looking on heritage and euros but still unsure on the size.
They both seem to say 180 but I’m sure the one on the Car is larger?

Also after the rear bearings for it but can only seem to find an option on Euro’s? Not vwh which seems odd

Any advise would be amazing as the car was meant to be having an mot tomorrow and this is yet another delay.

Ok so I’ve been out and had another look and took some measurements as best I could...



The depth size I keep thinking is 30mm but these seem to be 40 :-/

Is it not theses that fit?
You will need 2 and it’s best to fit new shoes when fitting new drums.

Yeah there the ones I’ve found, but I don’t trust this car lol having looked at the drums they seem slightly bigger...

I’m planning on going to see Jim tomorrow as he things he has some so I’ll take a look.

On a different note why are euros like £44 when VW heritage are £18 lol
Now I feel like if I go to heritage they won’t be very good quality but then again when is euros ever haha

Not 100% sure if they do fit as my cars a 1988, yours is the end of production so VW could of stuck on better equipment etc?

Oooh, just looked at your picture again and your drums look like Mk2 golf drums??
VW heritage listed these when I searched a Scirocco????

Hmm I haven’t a clue lol...
Joost told me to take a look for a part number on the drum so I’ll do that tomorrow and if need to I’ll strip one down to be able to get proper measurements...
why is this car always a pain in the arse lol

So,
I’ve stripped the hub down and found the part number which is 171501615B
I’ve phoned VW Heritage and they told me it’s actually off a South African golf... why South African I have no idea lol

Looking up the drum it’s the same diameter but the inner height it’s 38.5mm

Luke at VWH seems to think I should just be able to put standard ones back on.. any ideas?

So after another long chat with vwh we have come to the conclusion that it should work..
So I’ve decided to do a full Rehaul of the rear breaks with new back plates all the way forward. Fingers crossed they all fit easily lol [emoji23]

to be honest the only thing that changes in the drums is the width of the drum only with shoes so if you buy a matching pair of drums and shoes they should fit straight on.
the only different ones ive seen in diameter was the mk3 golf estate that had 200mm drums instead of 180mm so unless you've had a very unusual modification you should be OK with standard drums and shoes off heritage

Any tips on rebuilding the shoes? What order with the springs etc as I absolutely hate shoes lol

put all the springs on the shoes and then put onto the backing plate, you wont be able to get one side on at the bottom due to springs pulling them together.
get some pliers on the metal edge of that shoe and pull against the spring untill you can get it onto the backing plate.
then put the locating springs through into the backing plate.
ive found this is the easiest way.
