I used a Sachs standard with no problems. Can't remember where the flywheel came from but 9a rings a bell for some reason. I'm sure it was from a passat or something. I have a 2e block.

Mk3 2.0 8v has a 210mm clutch disc. However, I think it might have a larger spline size, same as a mk2 Golf/Scirocco 16v.

What is the GT - a 1.6 or 1.8?

Something in the deep recesses of mind tells me all mk2 Scirocco 1.8s have a 210mm clutch.
The same voice tells me that all 8v flywheels are the same - just that 1.6 flywheels have a smaller internal diameter (for a 190mm clutch).
So you can transfer your Scirocco flywheel/pressure plate/clutch to the 2.0 engine.

Or you could drop in the 2.0 engine block and gearbox complete - the gearboxes are also 020 rod change. You'd just need to swap some bits over.

I only have the 2.0 engine, not the gearbox, and I want to keep the ratios and the lighter gearbox. but the 2.0 engine has the clutch and flywheel still attached so I was wondering if I could send the 2.0 flywheel away to be lightened and use that, as the 1.8 engine is still being used as a daily. im building the engine for next summer so if I can save time doing it that way I will, otherwise ill have to wait until I remove the old engine.

Flywheel should be OK - the clutch (and possibly the pressure plate) might have a larger spline than the pushrod on the GT gearbox.
Go on to Facebook - search Gas'n'Gears - a very experience chap called Martin - forum name elsewhere "Hotgolf" does flywheels (just google Hotgolf flywheel)- he'll know if it's compatible.

There must be a reason I replaced a perfectly good flywheel though when I did mine. I swear it was bigger and my original one was a 1.8....

So Google says you want a 210mm clutch. The 2e item is less desirable as its heavier. I am still non the wiser about why I didn't use my original one though if that is supposed to be 210mm.

so get hotgolf to lighten the 2.0 flywheel then, doesn't need to be crazy light as itll be a daily, but a bit lighter than a standard 1.8 flywheel would be great, with a 210mm clutch from a 1.8. fantastic, thanks everyone.
