Re: 1.8 20v into mk1. Anybody done it
as I can remember mk1 and mk2 scirocco use the same MK1 platform, so it may be the same as a 20V into a mk2 scirocco except the downpipes?
am in the middle of that swap (mk2) and except for the electronics,, downpipe and intercooler piping it's not that hard, I did all the basic stuff in my driveway using a jack and hand tools, now we took it to a friends garage to do the rest.
My biggest problem was with the steering knuckle, since rhd car have the steering boot close to where the downpipe pass, not sure that the boot will last long

Re: 1.8 20v into mk1. Anybody done it
I have done a mk2 20v, twice now since the first one was written off less than a month after i finished it.
It is a fairly straight forward swap, although I cheated a bit and got someone else to do the wiring loom for me.
If you keep the 020 box you only need to modify the drivers side engine mount, all other mounts can stay the same. If you go for an 02a or 02j box you'll need a rear and passenger side mount too. I made mine but you can buy all 3.
The biggest challenge for me was the intercooler pipework. But several silicone angles and connectors did the job just fine.
Great conversion though, really transforms the car.
Ben.
