So, FFWD 6.5 years and the car was once again mine. However, due to living in the US, the car sat at my brothers until September 2012. Unfortunately it failed the MOT miserably and it was once again consigned to sit - this time at the Rocco Grotto - where the Autoad worked his welding magic and delivered it back to me last month with a fresh MOT
It was then trapped in the drive for 3 weeks due to builder's skips/material
Finally I got to drive it last week - after nearly a year and a half of ownership
and it was most definitely worth the wait 
As luck would have it, one of the first things I noticed was that the blower was dead on all 3 speeds. Applying 12v direct to the motor did nothing so the only conclusion was dead motor. Given that I'd be dismantling everything anyway I thought I may as well replace the heater matrix too. Quite surprisingly it turned out the VWH were by far the cheapest supplier - and the quickest. Parts ordered yesterday, arrived this morning and fitted this afternoon.
Talking of quick delivery - my new wheels were ordered on Tuesday and also arrived this morning
