is the tank presurised
Is the tank on an 92 mk2 gt2 (carb) pressurised - the petrol cap does not seem to have a rubber seal but I was 'informed' that I shoul hear a pressurised hiss when I fill up ?

Re: is the tank presurised
The tanks are ventilated, so I think they shouldn't become pressurised, although it does happen. I wouldn't worry if yours doesn't hiss, it probably just means air is replacing fuel as intended.

Re: is the tank presurised
Tanks aren't pressurized... As above, more likely a slight vacuum may build up and hiss.
However pretty sure the cap should have a seal, and I think recent-ish changes mean the car should fail an MOT test if the seal is missing.

I've never seen an MOT man take the fuel cap off?
I would think that it should have a seal on the cap, both of my Mk1's do, carb and injection.

yes, it should have a rubber seal on it. Loads of testers don't bother checking though. If you are getting a vacuum building up in the tank, it would suggest you have got a seal on the capmark1gls wrote:I've never seen an MOT man take the fuel cap off?
