Mk1 Golf GTI Exhaust

My mate is doing an ABF conversion on his MK1 golf GTI and has a surplus nearly new exhaust system inc manifold with 6 stud mount. I just wondered if anyone knows if this will fit my Scirocco so I can do away with my standard toilet bowl c clip exhaust manifold. my engine is the 1600 gt, the engine ...

Re: Possible head gasket

Take it for a good run, get it warm and drive it hard for at least half an hour. If your head gasket is ok the Mayo will dissapear, however if it gets worse you know you need to get the spanners out. Would be best to get the head skimmed and do cam belt and tensioner at the same time. Also dont use ...

Re: Strange Electrical Fault On High Beam

The Haynes manual shows the front lights as been earthed at earth point 15 - Earth Point in front loom, but Im not sure where that is and I can't see anything obvious - Any Ideas anyone? Also looking at the manual, all the affected items (high beam warning, rev counter, wipers and heater) are earthe...

Re: Strange Electrical Fault On High Beam

Thanks Nate, I checked those connections today, all seems good. I'll keep checking this week. Is there an earth point for the lights at the front end?

Re: Strange Electrical Fault On High Beam

This ones come back now, I have checked the earth which was at fault last time and all seems good. I have checked the earth strap between the rocker cover stud and the coil mounting and that seems ok too. Strangeley I have also noticed that when I pull the high beam flasher switch with the engine sw...

Re: 20vt or 130 pd engine swap

Go Diesel for a change, I had a MK5 Golf daily driver with the 2.0 tdi 138 hp engine and that was a flying machine, and still managed 50mpg no matter how hard it was driven. My last daily driver was an Seat Leon FR TDI 170hp. Before I got that I test drove the golf mk5 GTI and I can honestly say the...

Re: Rust Refurb - Windscreen Woes

Got mine back in today, was'nt too bad actually. I fitted the seal along the bottom edge over the spikey bits first and then pushed the screen into the seal fitted the rest of the seal round the screen. I then put a legnth of string around the seal and pulled it round from the inside whilst my mate ...

Re: Rust Refurb - Windscreen Woes

Im just doing the same on mine at the moment. I had a rust patch just in the bottom o/s corner of the screen around / under the seal. I was dreading taking out the screen but it turned out to be a breeze! This is how I did it: The screen seal sits over the metal lip of the body. Working from the ins...

Re: Repair or replace? (the bonnet)

If it is repaired the whole bonnet will need re painting anyway by the time their done. Get the new bonnet prepped and sprayed properly then at least you know you have solid metal there and not a load of filler.

That Golf looks well matey, My mrs has a mk3 golf tdi and its the GL model so has electric everything. Re: help

Check where the throttle cabel attaches onto the pedal, the 'hook' on the end of the cable sits into a rubber grommet type thing, on mine this had disintegrated meaning the throttle was stuck on slightly all the time as there was always a bit of tension on the cable, but if I lifted the pedal up wit...
