Ah, got it!
Cheers for that. It appears there's hardly anything left of the surround around the lock, so a new one is in order.
Also, poked around that drain hole too, which was partially blocked.
Thanks for the replies ;)

Re: Jacking up and axle stands
I recently did an oil change from above with a pump for the first time, it was very straightforward and extracted the amount of oil I expected, so I'm confident there wasn't much remaining in the sump. Much easier, quicker and more pleasant than draining the oil using the sump plug! I at last found ...

Water leaking from boot tailgate
Recently in this rain we've been having I noticed that when I open the boot, water gushes down from the tailgate. More specifically, 99% of it comes from the lock like a tap, as if it has collect there and then streams out from the centre of the lock when the tailgate is opened. There is a fair ...

Re: Jacking up and axle stands
Thanks for all the useful hints on this thread. Even if I can do it without jacking it up, still some very useful info on raising the car for future reference. I like the hint about the jacking it up from both sides at once. On another note, to do with oil changes - just while we're here - has ...

Re: Jacking up and axle stands
By the way, on my Mk2 GTII it is fairly easy to change the oil without raising the car. The filter can be changed from above and you just have to be able to reach the sump plug underneath. Oh hold up. This is interesting. I was under the impression that one had to have the sump at a slight angle in ...

Re: Tyres for Scala?
Thanks for your advice! I have gone for Goodyear Vector 4 3rd gen (all seasons) where I got a deal from National Tyres for 15% off, so I got them for £278 for a set of four fully fitted. I chose all seasons because I don't really hammer the car, even in the hot and dry (max 80 mph I do on the ...

Jacking up and axle stands
(slightly) embarrassingly, begin a novice, I have never jacked up and supported a car on axle stands. I own a low profile jack and some ratchet stands which I bought a few years back, and are obviously in good condition, having never been used. I've done some work underneath my Mk1 and Mk2 years ...

Re: Inner headlamp part numbers etc
Sorry about the late reply to this, I've been tied up. Thanks so much mate for the advice, I do seem to remember I actually knew that at one point (The "Top R", "Top L") thing, and forgot it! Why do they always seem to be "Top R"? Just my luck! Anyway, I'll keep scouring ebay, will have a look at ...

Re: Inner headlamp part numbers etc
I've got some part numbers from the seller that are apparently actually stamped on to the glass, as I couldn't quite make them out in the photo. 4459 RB & 301-127 760 They have written back to me saying that they think that both the RH and LH units are the same. Confusing me because why would VW ...

Inner headlamp part numbers etc
I've actually made a post requesting a passenger side inner headlamp (full beam light? Square in shape) on the pats wanted section, but have just noticed one on ebay. Am finding it difficult to make out the part numbers etc. on mine. Is there a difference between the drivers side and passengers side ...

Tyres for Scala?
I'm gonna treat the old girl to a full set of shoes. What are we recommending nowadays? I'm thinking "Mid range" tyres are ok? How about the Yokohama Blu Earths? I have only one set of rims so figuring all seasons probably best. I only ever do about 80mph max. I'm seeing Black circles do the Blu ...

Re: Cold starting not so good.
I was starting it like that, except I have never waited for the water light to go off, just crank and go but without any gas. I tried earlier and disconnected the blue switch from the cold start injector and started it like you describe. It was slightly better, starting within about 2 seconds, but I ...

Re: Cold starting not so good.
Actually, no, I'm pretty sure it's quite smooth when it starts. It kicks straight in to life. I will double check next time I start it up though..... Thanks for the reassurance re. the condensation out of the exhaust, it did cross my mind this is what it looked like - water vapour. I've been ...

Cold starting not so good.
Scala Injection - used to start immediately within one or two revs, nowadays if it's been sitting for a few days, it takes 3 - 4 seconds to start (although it always starts), slight smell of petrol for about 5 seconds. Leaky injectors? Injector seals? Cold start injector? It's had new plugs, dizzy ...

Re: Another FUBAR'D clutch cable
Plate or no plate sounds like a dodgy bulkhead? I did check the last time and the cable wasn't actually rubbing against the bulkhead at all. The grommet was doing its job nicely. How old is the clutch? An old clutch will not be helping things as they go stiff over time. It's at least 40000 miles ...
