Re: Windscreen chrome trim

The trims are aluminium and very easy to damage - they should be left in the seal for installation/removal of windscreen.
They are bright anodised, not chromed. They can be stripped, polished and refinished. I would recommend finding a specialist to do this. I can't remember if the joining pieces ...

Re: 3D printing and Scirocco parts?

I still have the stl files somewhere - and the clips may not be perfect first time out as they have not been prototyped yet...

Key thing to remember is that they must be printed in Nylon as it is the only RP material with the right properties for the job. Printing should also be SLA, not SLS and on ...

Re: Chrome Trim Refurb

The trims in the doors and side windows are alloy and are anodised, not chrome plated. Quite a few places that do chrome also do anodising, and they can chemically strip off the old oxide layer, carefully polish and re-anodise - need to be very careful polishing as they are so delicate.

I ...

Re: Wiper blade sizes mk1 & mk2

Hi Ed.

Do not dispose of your original front blade carriers if you still have them, the pivot is slightly offset and I have never been able to find a modern set of blades which fit correctly without overlapping and wearing the screen seal. I recycle the carrier and insert fresh blades each time ...

Agree - best short term solution is cable ties, but I'll spend some time checking and adjusting when its warmer! Thanks for the info guys.

Re: Tyres catching on brake lines

Thanks James! Someone has always been there first...

I think my braided lines may be a little pre-twisted, which means they move forwards towards the tyre as the hub turns, so will refit and see what happens. If that fails I will make some similar guides.

:beers:

Tyres catching on brake lines

scratching my head a little here...

MK1 Scirocco, standard springs, 7X15 195 50 15 tyres, Et28 - previously fitted to my other MK1 with no issues, catching on/rubbing the Goodridge brake lines above where they are held to the front struts on lock. Brake line routed correctly on front of strut. (I ...

Re: Adjusting coilovers...

Hi Ed - yes, (pricey) yellow ones - although I haven't tried the cheaper kits (Red??) Which iirc are valved on the softer side anyway.

Ride is supple over typical UK B roads, and tyres stay in permanent contact with ground with very good grip/control. I added stiffer roll bars to the GLS which ...

Re: Adjusting coilovers...

Hi Ed,

If you are going back to standard may I suggest Koni top adjustable dampers (set close to softest end of adjustment) together with standard springs. Great ride/handling balance. (I have also used the Bonrath spring perches to mildly improve the stance, but certainly does not look slammed ...

Re: Leather seat dye

I've done a fair bit of this over the years - Woolies supply pretty good kits - black is standard, but other colours can be matched. Very pleased with the results. I use a low pressure spray gun to apply. Happy to advise/explain/possibly even assist if I'm about (often working away) Based in Surrey ...

Re: 3D printing and Scirocco parts?

It will be good to have the feedback Jim - Shouldn't be a problem getting the CAD updated as required to improve if needed. Please let me know how it goes. Brilliant you've moved this on!
