Re: My project gets underway...'Mono' the GT2

Glad she's still alive! What's the mileage on the clock now? ABF/KR swap sounds interesting! Even with the original engine and Weber carb she went like a stabbed rat!

Re: My project gets underway...'Mono' the GT2

Ha ha! It's definitely impressive to drive for a carb engine. I had the chance to drive a Mk2 Scirocco Storm 1.8 injection (thanks Ian ;) ) and Mono felt just as powerful, believe it or not. I liked cruising around at low revs too, it seemed to be pretty good on fuel (and that's coming from a diesel ...

Re: My project gets underway...'Mono' the GT2

Hi Scirobbo! I've been wondering who bought 'Mono' for a while now. I'm really pleased to see the car's been treated to some cosmetic attention! It looks fantastic! I was soooo close to getting it put back to white myself, but it would have been a lower half respray due to lack of funds! That's also ...

Re: My project gets underway...'Mono' the GT2

Ha ha! Maybe luxurious was the wrong word, most of it's identical to the Mk1 Golf, but it's still a step up. I noticed the other day it's got heated windscreen washer jets...now we're talkin'! :groove:

Re: Project Poppy - 1987 Mk2 GT

She's certainly not going to be standard, but I keep changing my mind about what I want to do and how far to go. Body wise my intention is to certainly de-trim and de-badge her. I want the body to be as smooth as possible so even those things that aren't necessarily being removed like the door ...

Re: My project gets underway...'Mono' the GT2

Thanks for the encouragement, Paul! Baby steps...I replaced my GT II pillar badges today with some I bought from a fellow forum member. Before : http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/Gonk000/badge002.jpg After (the other side looked better...I might re-do this side as the badge was a bit bent ...

Re: Spotted

Mk2 Black (F reg) in Pickering, Friday 19th. Decided to drive to work in my Scirocco today and guess what was parked on the other side of town as I was leaving...a black Mk2! I never see them around here and there we both were on the the same street on the same day in this small town. Unfortunately ...

Re: Apparantly a Death Trap...

None of the things you say/the mechanics say are wrong with it make it 'death trap' at all! None of it's gonna make you crash into something...just persevere and sort things out bit by bit. It'll be worth it. A lot of things that make the car feel like a sack of poo are such simple little things ...

Re: Caliper bolts

I had a big problem with this, even after replacing the bad bolt for a brand new one. It turned out the thread on the caliper carrier was knackered, so I had to put a replacement carrier on to get the bolt to tighten properly.

Hi Lisa! (I'm a girl too)
Nice looking Scirocco you have there! There's loads of help on here, so hopefully your car will get better soon! :yup:

Re: My project gets underway...'Mono' the GT2

Well, so much for rattling on with stuff...time just goes nowhere! Anyway, got a worthwhile job done today...renewed the rear struts/shocks, springs and spring top seats. The only hard part I found was, predictably, getting the old lower shock bolts out! I knew just by looking at them that they were ...

Re: My project gets underway...'Mono' the GT2

Thanks Nathan. Good idea. The trouble is, it's not the original white paint underneath the black bits...it's some goth design or something from the owners before the bloke I got the car from! And the white on the front wings and doors isn't the right colour...it's lighter, so I need to do all of ...

Re: My project gets underway...'Mono' the GT2

More exciting stuff to come (I hope), but the rain has put me right off today. I recently got hold of a replacement caliper carrier for the nearside brake (the thread inside my existing one was wrecked causing top slider bolt to never tighten properly even with a new bolt). Turned into a long job ...

Great stuff! You've also inspired me to do a bit more than I otherwise might've attempted on mine. Looks like a real beauty, good work! :vcool:
