mk2 Golf 16v gearbox?

I've got to whip my gearbox off soon to resolve a few issues.

How would refitting a mk2 16v box compare to the GTX box?

Notch/Click/Step in the clutch travel

Just recently the clutch has developed a kind of click/notch at the top of the clutch travel when releasing.

Bulkhead is fine, cable is good, no gears crunch and there are not visible obstructions.

I'm leaning towards the release bearing. Any ideas?

Any unusual engines sitting in 'roccos?

I'm just curious.

My 8v has just hit 225,000 miles and needs a freshen up. I've done an KR/ABF conversions in the past. So I'm not really interested in those and I'm not sold on a turbo engine being in keeping with the character of a scirocco. Are there any other engines sitting in sciroccos ...

Adding more electrical items + Upping the capabilities..

Question.

Current car, GTX 1.8 8v injection. I'm wanting to add 4 spot lights, a newer headunit, a decent set of speakers, extra gauges, some additional interior lighting, satnav built into the dash and other little gubbins to play with.

Running at the minute with the lights on, the fan, the ...

I've just necked it with Shell V-Power Nitro so I'll report back after a few days if there has been a difference.

Re: Is the In Tank pump 'essential'?

After a saturday afternoon in the garage, I got this one sorted. I ran both the pumps off a battery in a jug of clean fuel and the grit that came out of them!!!! I've since fitted a strainer to the in-tank pump and new connecting hoses and a new inline filter between the lift and the main pump and ...

What fuel? 95/98/99/103? Shell/BP? Supermarket?

Ok guys 'n' gals,

Last few months i've been running purely on Sainsburies standard unleaded at 126.9/litre.

The highest I can get the MFA to display is below. That took approx 30 miles on the motorway at trucker speeds being rather careful. My questions are, should I be happy at that? Would a ...

Re: Is the In Tank pump 'essential'?

Certianly think I'll be investing soon. Already sorted the filler neck, manage to replicate the old one at work. Re-made in mild steel then coated with zinc epoxy and PU topcoat. Should be good for a few years.

Re: Is the In Tank pump 'essential'?

Turns out. I removed the unit and ran it in a pot of clean fuel and the amount of silt that came out of it you would not believe. Fitted a new strainer and its been fine the last few days. Need a genius way of cleaning up the tank inside and keeping the pumps clean.

Is the In Tank pump 'essential'?

Basically, I had suspected fuel pump issues a little while ago. Cleaned all the connectors for the intank pump and fitted new pipes, along with a new main pump.

Just recently its started whining again, approximately 3 weeks old. Im starting to think that the intank pump maybe failing which might ...

Re: Mk2 with a 300mm steering wheel?

By 'fun' do you mean, more responsive, less arm movement needed? Or do you have to feed the wheel a lot more on a smaller one??

Mk2 with a 300mm steering wheel?

I'm just wondering about the weighty steering if I swap to a smaller wheel.

I measured the standard one at 380mm but due to the seating position I find it too large. I'm short and have to sit all the way forward.

So I'm wondering if a 300mm would make the standard steering far to heavy? Any ...
