TIE ROD REPLACEMENT

Hi
I am going to replace the non adjustable tie rod on the near side of my Scirocco GT. With a new one which is now adjustable.
Am I going to be able to do this with just normal spanners etc. OR am i going to need one of these fancy tubular tools to get it on and off?

Re: Starts, immediately dies

my old SAAB was the same system. It would start, run perfect for exactly 3 seconds then stop, you could do that all day.
What year is your car ?
you can bypass the thermo time switch to test it but different years have different diagrams. I could look for you if you feel confident to try it.

Re: Starts, immediately dies

don't know the Scirocco fuel injection system, as mine has a carb. However I did have a Saab 900 turbo with Bosch fuel injection. That had a problem where it would start, run for three seconds then stop. It was the thermo time switch.

steering rack adjuster

Has anyone ever used the adjuster on the rack. what the benefit or pitfalls of touching it? Despite setting all the camber toe out and all new components. My car feels perfectly fine but not sporty. my MK2 GT still feels like you need to turn the wheel a lot to change direction .

Re: RECOMMENDED TOE ANGLE

looked at that. like the method.I will be doing it to my car as soon as possible.
All new suspension came with shortened bump stops. Ride is lovely. Just steering that's gone rubbish.

Re: RECOMMENDED TOE ANGLE

Jjust checked my camber with a gauge. Seems I have 4 degrees of negative on one side and two degrees of negative on the other.
the new suspension bushes must have bedded in. Its obviously way out.
I didn't think camber would affect the handling much.
I will try and support the car on its suspension ...

Re: RECOMMENDED TOE ANGLE

i will check my camber.
how much camber do you go with?
I must admit, when we done a load of suspension work recently. We did set the camber off the hub, with the wheels off .
Should it have been down on its wheels?

RECOMMENDED TOE ANGLE

HI

I have had my Scirocco for at least 5 years. most of it is replaced. it has iebach lowered srings and shocks. my question is: why does it feel so wooly. despite having the geometry set to the Haynes manual. it still feels no fun to drive. On a roundabout or bend it feels reluctant to follow the ...

Re: Rear beam anti roll bar clamps

I just done the anti roll bar clamps on the back of my GT using the fonzooorooo method. Used the two mole grips and a G clamp. worked very well. I also cleaned the surface of the trailing arm and greasing that as well helps. Thanks for posting it.

Tank rust or just the filler neck

My car is sucking rust out of the tank, it has for years and I filter it out . My question is does the rust form in the filler neck or does the tank itself rust?
I am reluctant to change the tank as it looks like a nightmare to do.

Re: INTERIOR GEAR LEVER BALL JOINT REPLACING mk2

Bit the bullet and went for it. Turns out its easy. All done from inside no drama. Though don't forget to put the big spring inside the ball.

INTERIOR GEAR LEVER BALL JOINT REPLACING mk2

I changed all the bushes and linkages under the car. But I held off doing the gear stick ball joint . Because I read a post on another site saying if you undo the ball joint housing inside the car something will fall off under the car! is this true? or can ( as it would appear by the haynes manual)I ...

Re: Falling out of love , is my own doing?

I sometimes lose the enthusiasm for my mk2 GT. The thing that saves it, is having uses for it. I use mine at the weekends so I don't have to empty all the tools and spares out of my company issued vehicle, to get my RC planes in. I put a tarp in it and do stinky runs to the tip, when I miss the bin ...

Re: CABIN AIR EXTRACTION

Checked the flaps and vent in the doors. They were ok not blocked if anything a bit stuck open. However have recently sealed with silicone the under bonnet metal moulding. To stop fumes from engine bay via that, through to air vents. But most significantly adjusted my bonnet to pull down harder at ...
