Re: Gtx turbo

There was another turbo technics mk2 at the National meeting a year or two ago, I’m pretty sure. Glad to see the new owner of this one here, welcome.

Re: Bad start to the weekend...

Prep work will be the key, as always, to a good paint finish. You'll need to make sure the bumpers are completely clean, then use plastic spray primer and top coat.

Re: Leaky Sunroof

Cap’n Tolley’s Creeping Crack Cure might be your friend in the interim, but a new seal or rubber washers where the bolts go through the glass are likely to be what you need to fix the leak(s) altogether.

Re: Chinese Carburettor

Gower and Lee can get all the relevant parts to maintain your Pierberg. http://www.gowerlee.dircon.co.uk

If you’re keen to replace altogether with a Weber 32/34 DMTL (it’s easier to maintain but it won’t give you any more power or fuel efficiency) then these are readily available new and used.

Re: New owner - engine advice required

The DX engine that you have is reliable, strong and easy to maintain. It is capable of covering many times the mileage yours has done, if properly maintained. There’s no reason to change it for a daily driver. You’ll easily get in the high 30’s to low 40’s mpg and it is quite fast enough to keep pac...

Re: Vague steering issues

I would take it somewhere where they can sort out alignment and camber properly for you. It’ll make a world of difference to the handling if it’s done properly.

Re: Vague steering issues

You need to set up the suspension geometry again after you replace stuff like that.

Re: Vague steering issues

The tyres can make a big difference too. A mk1 I owned had unmatched, old tyres on the front when I got it. The steering was vague and the steering wheel didn’t sit straight when driving in a straight line. Just matching the tyres on the front axle sorted it out.

Re: Vague steering issues

If you’re renewing the bushes, I’d recommend oem rubber bushes rather than poly, especially if you are going to have non-stock suspension.

Black GTII, also on a K-plate, on the road between Tintagel and Boscastle. Seems the West Country is relatively thick with active mk2s.

Re: Original stereo for Scala

It's not 100% consistent, they were either Panasonic or Blaupunkt and the exact model can vary, so any from either of those manufacturers that was available in '89 would look right.

Especially important to fit new fuel lines for modern fuels, which can destroy old fuel lines. Plenty of horror stories about engine bay fires as a result of this.

I think you might get £750-£1000 without an MoT.
