Bad start to the weekend...

Post by Fresco3000 »

Thanks to a boy racer entering the roundabout at speed my former mint Mk2 requires some parts. I braked, swerved and clipped his bumper.

Painful insurance adventures ahead.
mk2-damage.jpg
If anyone has the following parts at reasonable rates let me know.

Drivers front wing
Front bumper
Bonnet
Drivers front lamps

Hoping yours is better than mine.

Bonnet looks fixable with a bag of sand (Not slang) and a mallet. The bumper could be too as it's likely just the metal bar thats bent, some heat and a big vice would straighten it which just leaves the wing and indicator at least

HI David,
I probably have lamp and indicator as I recently scrapped our J reg one and salvaged everthing I could.
The reinforced behind the bumper is a pig to get off the cover but would need to be separated to straighten out and rubberised cover placed back on. I cant help you with a bumper as I let it go to a register member along with the wings.
best wishes Gerry.
p.s. how hard did you thump the pyjama that caused it.

Cheers Gerry,

Let me know, must have been about 10mph as I had braked and swerved. Still an expensive hit.

Thanks to all who have advised and been in touch.

Picked up all the parts, will attempt the fixing next week.

Ended up with a coloured bumper which i’ll have to spray black. Any advice on paint for this, so that it looks a bit plastic, non shiney, if that’s possible?

Alternatively, is there a solvent available that would strip the paint off without damaging the plastic?

Good point, must say all my paint stripping experiences have been like sanding x100 in pain : /

You could just scuff it up with a scotchbrite pad, then use VHT Wrinkle paint on it, put a heat gun on it after each coat and it'll texture up like the OEM bumper. Thinner coats will product finer wrinkles, have a play around with it
