groaning at full lock

Post by the edmundator »

Now that the GT is mobile again, I need to start recommissioning it properly (it had been unused for some time before I bought it).

When steering at, or near, full lock at slow speeds there is a groaning noise from the front left side of the car. I'm sure I've had this problem before on a volvo, but I can't remember what the list of things to check is.

Advice please.

Possibly the caliper on that side being loose? Could result in the pad interfering with the disc...

Might be the old CV joint on that side, but I think you'd get more of a clunking sensation rather than a groan.

Could also be the wheel bearing, potentially. Doesn't sound good, whatever it is!

Did this every get sorted? The same is happening to me but drivers side front. Slow speeds, 1st or reverse, although it doesn't have to be full lock. Its quite a loud creaky groaning noise...

Any ideas or help much appreciated! Thanks.

I figured out that on my car it was just the tyres rubbing on the mudflaps after fitting wider wheels!

aaahh, right not the same as my problem then... mines at slow speeds, right hand front, worse on right hand corners and parking... strange!

Cheers for replying.
