Thanks for flagging this, I have the very same Golf stripped down engine on blocks and I now I feel very enthused to do the re-build and for that matter the re-build on my Scirocco thereafter

I like the way it's presented with no flash engine detailing just honest rebuilding. Wish I could instantly get the block looking that clean.

If yes, then it's easy peasy lemon squeezy.

1. Strip EVERYTHING off it, if you're rebuilding, that's no great shakes.
2. Get it dipped, most engine services places will do this for you for £10-20
3. Get it shot blast - mine cost beer tokens, but the guy is doing a load of powder coating for me too.
4. Give it a GOOD clean internally with a steam cleaner - half an hour at least on SUPER HOT to clear out the shot particles.
5. STRAIGHT after steam cleaning - get the paint on the outside... and whilst the paint is drying... get the internal surfaces misted over with oil to prevent corrosion - if you don't do this... and give it a pop... you will see rust appearing in front of your very eyes. FACT!.

Voila!! Clean block ready for rebuild

Good food for thought as I am likely to be doing this kind of work in the colder months. I'll need to be organized in terms of preventing the kind of instant rusting that you mention. My shop can always be bit damp as an old barn so I think I would aim to rebuild and run without any real standing time. Looking forward to work on clean engine components for a change.

No, it's VHT in Chevvy Orange, which has to be the premium colour choice for smart Rocco owners. I reckon even Mk1 racing Rocco's should have their's Chevvy Orange too :D

Chevvy orange I'm a Nascar fan but it wouldn't match my red Rocco probably black for me

Looks great, but I'm really not sure about the wisdom of sandblasting a block... all those precision machined surfaces being eroded unevenly, and you'll need to be very careful how you clean it out - core plugs out and all that.

They were masked off Mike. In reality the whole inside of it was masked off with exception of the oil ways you can see on the front.
