Fitting Bee Sting Aerial. Advice wanted

Post by cranwellpoacher »

Hi guys. I have ordered 2 bee sting aerials to fit to scarlett soon. I did fit a bee sting many years ago to my GT2 but to be honest i ruined the headlining in doing so :wakey: :swoon: . Anyone got any advice as to the best proceedure to fit a bee sting and also the best routing option for the cable to the head unit. Cheers.Andy

put masking tape on the roof to mark the position and drill thru. this will help stop the drill wandering about and scratching the paint. also makes it much easier to mark out.

once drilled, make sure you paint the exposed bare metal to keep the rot at bay.

i'm assuming you're going to put the aerial at the rear of the roof? if so, remove the rubber from the boot opening. warm the headlining up along the rear edge - this will soften the lining and the glue and make damage much less likely. you'll still need to go careful, they can be very brittle, but as long as you take your time it will come off ok.

when i fitted mine, i ran the cable down the n/s/r pillar into the boot, then along under the carpet to the front along with my signal cables for the sub. power ran down the opposite side of the car.

you may well need to fit a signal booster to get a decent radio reception.

Measure the distance from the tailgate to the position you want the aerial in carefully, before you drill, so as to ensure that when you open the tailgate, it does not foul the aerial.
