Webasto sun roof
Hello All. My weathershield fabric sunroof has given up. The rear metal part that holds the cord has broken off so the roof is loose now. dooh
. I would prefer if it was not there but it is nice on the few sunny days we have. Any ideas. Is it posible to fill in the hole with another skin? or best try find a replacement.Poor old Scirocco cant go for spins now..

I got mine retrimed inside and out by a chap who retrims convertable cars, he made a new roof for me by hand, I also had a new headliner fitted at the same time. I'll try to get some photos up later.

Where the problem showed up first.

So when I took it apart I found the reason why it riped.

so off with the faded green vinyl

and I found some rot,

more

So I chopped the rot out and made some repair sections

Welded them back in and a coat of high content zinc primer.

Next the repair of the weathershield vinyl roof.
Fingers crossed.

I also had some rust by the rear hatch in the same place as you and lots around the roof where the hole was cut.
On my Webasto roof the front metal trim is aluminium so did not rust, you can just see it in one of the pictures. The rear metal trim was a little rusty but cleaned it up and repainted it. I was told to use a 2 pack paint (paint and hardner) as the glue he uses will take hammerite etc straight off the metal. I used rustbusters epoxy mastic paint as I used it under the car and on various other bits.
I like the Webasto roof, even had it open today when I drove home from work.

You can just see the metal at the bottom of the picture

Just before it went in for a new roof and head linner

New roof fitted.

Got her sorted. I chopped the rot off the front metal part of the roof and re made the rear. I took pictures but cant find them? Painted the roof (L99Y) but its greener than the rest of the car dooh!. Any way the roof is back together and today the sun shines, better open her up.
