Weird starting/running

Post by cranwellpoacher »

I had the engine tuned the other day and hoped that this would resolve a problem that I have been experiencing when starting the car. It strikes up first time but then, if you touch the accelerator the engine looses power and stalls. Also, the engine ignition feels and sounds a bit weird. Almost like a missfire. If you imagine the sensation of a normal cycle of ignition you can sort of sense the cylinders ignition sequence and the engine feels balanced. My Scala's engine feels unbalanced and (in an attempt to to describe it!) instead of a smooth cycle it feels like the ignition process is causing too many sparks! sort of a brrrrrrrrrr rather than a bang,bang,bang...does this make any sense?

Car is EX engine, Peiereburg 2E2 Carb and standard fuel/ignition.

Cheers.Andy

I would be inclined to go back to the place who "tuned" it, was it a general garage or a VW specialist?

Probably bit of long shot but, something kinda similiar I experienced to that was ignition timing related.
Sorry, thats about as near as I can get.
Good luck.

Any chance the tuners were leaning in the airbox and split the flange between the carb & manifold?

^^ What he said. Sounds like an air leak to me. Check the vac connections - maybe they set the timing and forgot to reconnect the vac hose to the dizzy?
