Scirocco Register

Hi all, finally had enough of having an engine slowly being covered in oil, so gunna sort out the rocker cover. Any advice on which way to loosen/tighten the bolts that it in place? Is there an ideal order like there is with the head? or just a kind of 'dont undo one end then the other'.

just undo, remove, cleanand do up again. 10 minute job tops :)

unless like me something goes massivly wrong (dont know how, dont it on several cars) and the thing goes up in flames

Get the rocker cover gasket from the dealer and it will be the rubber MK3 Golf type, 1 piece and a new stud kit, much better and only £15.
I was taught to start in the middle and work you way out when tightening, as like you say doing a head.

Rocker cover gaskett and 2x seals kit cost me £2.79

Engine is so much more oil free and I don't get a whiff of oil fumes when sat in traffic!

They did have cork ones back in the day but if you go into a dealer and ask for a rocker cover gasket for a Scirocco this is what they will sell you, much better and will last years.

Oh.. well i bought a replacement er.. some months ago from GSF. Its the Cork type with the seperate cam seal. Dont imagine it should be a dificult job, ended up busy today so its been mvoed to tmoz. Been playing with another part today... mini weekend project :)

If you use the rubber gasket you have to change the bolts as the original bolts have a shoulder on them which means steel insert on the rubber gasket gets in the way and stops it all sealing up properly. I have 1 rubber gasket - new - if you want it for a few quid

Cheers for the offer dude, but if i've gotta get bolts for it as well it doesnt seem worth the hassle. No suppliers near me lol

Should be a fun car filled day tommorrow :) Can't wait for summer, or spring actually!!

Just don't make the mistake I did, don't go to GSF - they'll tell you it's a straight swap, it's not!! - you need longer studs with the rubber ones. Careful not to overtighten the nuts.
