Corroded fuel filler neck
hi all
hoping someone can help me with my problem
been looking everywhere for a new filler neck for my rocco as my one is corroded and every time I put petrol in half of it ends up under the car!
I searched all the breakers and parts places I could find by googling vw parts etc but no joy
I thought of finding the german translation for it and looking for somewhere in germany or just german ebay as it seems nowhere in UK has one
I read somewhere on the forum that you can convert a mk1 pipe to fit. Any one done it?
haven't really checked this avenue but it may well be my planB... that or zi germans
Any suggestions?
Also the problem needs to get sorted as i think bits have started falling into tank
two weeks back it did the whole fuel cutting out thing and erratic revs and idling so my rocco is currently off the road
Will I need to flush the tank out and blow thru fuel pipe to make sure all the bits have been got rid of?
Cheers

Re: Corroded fuel filler neck
hello mate
every scirocco goes through this eventually, second hand ones appear on this site every now and again ( your best bet ) your tank will have to fished out, under seat ( magnet ) plus your inline fuel filter
mk1 golf fits but you have to cut it at the tank end, cut in stages to make sure you dont go to far, might need a different filler cap
check out e bay regulary, also last look out for darren down in cornwall, he might have one
his no is about on here somewhere
cheers

Re: Corroded fuel filler neck
Can't you just cable tie some flexi pipe to the back of the arch, from the filler cap, down the the tank, using the old ends and cut out the rotten bit?
Failing that, find some more pipe thats the right size and bend one up, then weld the old filler end to the new pipe?

Re: Corroded fuel filler neck
ended up fixing the old one by cutting the end off that was rotted and welding
can't believe there is one on ebay now...
i spent ages searching and calling up breakers and classic car part dealers...
I still love you ebay but I guess these days you have to be a bit more patient and have a good dose of luck
thanks for your suggestions and help

Re: Corroded fuel filler neck
No bud, thats the short piece of hose connecting the filler neck to the tank. You need 29320 filler neck £39.
Don't ask me....it was like that when i got here !

Re: Corroded fuel filler neck
thought the price was too good to be true.
Might have too just wait for a cheap second hand one.

Re: Corroded fuel filler neck
Didn't someone post on here about using a modified
BMW 3 series filler neck. It's made from plastic and
can be moulded with a hot air gun to fit the rocco?
- or was I dreaming again

Re: Corroded fuel filler neck
I did this repair at the weekend using the GSF Mk1 Golf part, its relatively straightforward. Ended up hacking about 6-7ins of the pipe along with the metal surround at the filling end (couldn't get the rubber seal thing on otherwise). However, the old fuel cap doesn't fit which is a bit of a blag, had to order a new one (GSF part 29430). Pity as everything opened on the one key before. Still, its nice not to get a wet leg when filling up now!
Re: Corroded fuel filler neck
I have just spent an hour messing around with a bmw 3 series ( r plate ) filler neck. And by christ, she fits!!!! Big thank you to the genius that posted that one.... was contemplating writing the car off due to various problems. However.... as VW wanted - wait for it - £ 2 3 0 squid for a replacement, and i picked this up for £5. The original filler cap even fits!!!! Nice one.
