Fitting water pump and rad..

As title, is there anything i should look to be aware of?

Have just bought a a new rad and water pump from GSF, need to fit them over the next couple of days before friday, ideally within an afternoon. So.. 3 hours. lol Anything obvious i should be aware of? Have got the water pump with 2 'O' rings, recently fitted a new 'stat, so that can be swapped over, and i've got some jubilee clips to replace those bloody clips. (have a serious hatred of them..)

Anything radiator wise to be aware of? worth rinsing it or anything before hand?

Also got a pipe to replace the one which has split.. coolant systems taken a battering this winter!!

No mate very easy job took me about 2 hours to do everything if you need a new alternate belt might as well change that because you have to take it of anywhere

Awesome, i was kinda hoping that. Pump etc looked pretty easy last time i sorted my timing belt, its got a pretty new belt on the pump anyway, changed it then.

Agree with LEEP 2 hours should do it.
If you need a copy of the radiator or water pump removal and refitting let me know and I'll put one up.

Totally agree with you there.

I just fitted a water pump (to our washing machine ) and getting those clips back on took longer than the rest of the job (it was evening and I had no jubilee clips of the right size to hand )

I have already changed them ALL over on both the Rocco and the T3 Camper !

Hope the job goes smoothly - don't forget the anti-freeze !!!

DONT FORGET TO PUT YOUR HEATER CONTROLS TO HOT, IF YOU DONT AND FLUSH OUT THE THE OLD COOLANT FROM ENGINE AND THEN FILL UP WILL YOU HAVE A BLOCKAGE AND YOUR ENGINE WILL OVER HEAT CAUSE THE WATER CANT GET AROUND ( I FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY LOL)

I agree, I always use stainless steel fuel pipe clips if possible.

Put a new thermostat housing on as well,will probably save a load of grief!

Just remembered i bought a haynes a few weeks ago!! Was about a fiver off the bay... love the bargains :D

I had the biggest issue with those clips when they wouldnt physically open large enough to move along the pipe. Which was a confusing moment for me. Took nearly an hour to move the thing cos i couldnt get the pliers on to bend the dam tab out the way. Grrr...

And ghost, i made sure i bought a 5 litre jobby of anti-freeze as well.. main reason for getting it out of the way this weekend, it was costing so much to keep refilling it with water and coolant so it didnt freeze!! :( and cheers for the advice LEEP, its currently sitting constantly on open anyway... too cold otherwise!

Changover, DONE.

Made the epic mistake of getting distracted.. so started about 2. Which due to the cold and certain unforseen awkwardness, mean i ended up finishing at 6. Good fun though!! Fixed the leak on the pipe and the rediator, only to create one on the water pump. :( Turned out to be a mis-shapen jubilee clip, new one on and its sorted it. :)

Just need to re-top the cooling now, and should be sorted for winter!! Woo! :D

Well, i must admit i went with no common sense and got halfway through removing the water pump before i realised they were two more bolts underneath the dam alternator i needed to remove. That annoyed me somewhat, took best bit of 40 mins odd to get the dam bit of pipe off that was leaking too!

Anyways, its all done now! And the new ps3 just arrived... let the fun begin :D

Yeah a Haynes manual is a handy thing but not as much fun as a PS3

Very true. altho a dam sight easier to use than the ps3.... and i dont keep dying in the rocco!
