Re: 1987 gt wheel offset
Pretty sure standard should be ET35.
Offset is basically how far away from the centreline of the wheel and the face of the hub (where you screw the wheel onto!), measured in mm.
If you have 2 wheels that are the same width, ET35 and ET20, the ET35 one will be 15mm further out from the hub of the car. The lower the Offset, the closer to the car body / suspension, etc everything gets.

The ET on the Porsche wheels should be stamped on them.
For all the gory details, and you'll note (possibly) that he says about 7mm is acceptable without upsetting the suspension geometry too much (so from ET28 up to ET42 in your case)
Confused.com yet?
EDIT : Wheel width will also play a part!!

Re: 1987 gt wheel offset
isn't it the lower the figure that points to the wheels 'sticking out' more? eg et25 will give you more poke than et28.
theres a full set of teledials/adpators/bolts/tyres for sale over on edition 38 atm - £350 is the asking price.
here's a few TD pics.

See how confusing it is :D
And yes,... I was converting Offset to in and outset in my head, lol. It was late, I was confused and my wife was lurking.

Re: 1987 gt wheel offset
cookie cutters should be around et50, so if the adapters are 20-30mm think thatl give you an et of 20-30. Perfect. Why cant they all be the same?
